Viva la drama! Welcome to Drama at the Bromfords School and Sixth Form College
The Aims for Learning in Drama
Engage actively in the process of dramatic study in order to develop as effective and independent
pupils and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds
Work imaginatively and creatively in collaborative contexts, generating, developing and
communicating ideas
Reflect on and evaluate their own work and the work of others
Develop and demonstrate competence in a range of practical, creative and performance skills
Develop a basis for their future roles as active citizens in employment and society in general as well
as for the possible further study of drama
Consider and explore the impact of social, historical and cultural influences on drama texts and
activities.
Key Stage 3
Drama is offered in key stage three and explores various interesting themes through the application of drama skills. Key stage three is very focused on developing: contribution, creativity, collaboration, communication, confidence and commitment in all pupils.
Key Stage 4
Drama focuses on creating independent thinkers and great communicators. The department follows the
edexcel specifications which consist of unit1: exploring a theme through drama strategies, elements
and medium(30%), unit 2: exploring play text and responding to a live performance(30%) and unit 3
performing to an audience, an external practical exam(40%)
Sixth Form
Drama and music collaborates in offering performance studies (ocr) which consists of four units:
G401: COURSE WORK AND A COMMUNITY PEFORMANCE,
UNIT G402: EXTERNAL WRITTEN EXAM ON John Godber and Gershwin
G403: EXTERNAL WRITTEN EXAM ON POAT-MODERNISM AND
G404: PRACTICAL EXAM BASED ON A COMMISSION AND AN EXTRACT FROM A WORK
STUDIED.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Drama and music collaborate to offer a fabulous annual school productions
and the bromfest!
Drama usually participates in the Shakespeare’s schools festival
Show Case Evenings
Drama also presents annual showcase evenings celebrating year 10, 11, 12 and 13
practical work
Theatre and residential trips
Drama runs annual theatre trips for all pupils year 7-year 13 on a regular basis
Residential trip for Year 10 Drama and Music
pupils:
To enhance learning and feed in to course work drama and music pupils attend a two day london redisential trip that offers exciting workshops at pineapple studios, as well as attending two relevant shows
Expert professional workshops
Drama also offers annual in-house professional workshops that are run by professional actors and cover relevant aspects of the curriculum.
