DESCRIPTION

Everyone has a brand whether they know it or not. Your personal brand is your reputation, and you need to take charge of it to get ahead in your career. There are several ways you can discover your personal brand. The easiest is survey a group of 10 people in your trusted circle. Ask them to use three adjectives to describe you. Then take note of what words come back to you most often. Another way to discover your brand is to create SMART stories. These are similar to CAR (Challenge-Action-Result) stories, but also focus on the common theme/skill that is demonstrated in the story. You can also always use a 3rd party assessment tool like 360Reach or the Fascination Advantage. Once you discover your brand, you need to refine how you communicate it. This is your Why-Buy-ROI – a term coined by Deb Dib and Susan Whitcomb as part of their G3 certification program. Your Why-Buy-ROI statement focuses on the who/how & what of delivering/supporting measurable results, primarily in dollars or percentages. Then after you know what you're going to say about yourself, you need to start building your brand. Take inventory of your online presence and make sure your profiles are consistent across social media platforms. Start establishing yourself as a thought leader through blogging, writing white papers or ebooks. Use video to make more connections and stand out amongst your competition. Finally as you build your network, keep your brand in mind and fill gaps of knowledge in your network by getting to know other experts that complement your field. Remember the more you can give, the more likely you'll get in return.

“It's this simple: You are a brand. You are in charge of your brand. There is no single path to success. And there is no one right way to create the brand

called You, except this: start today. Or else.” !
