Dr. Andy Walker received his MS in horticulture and PhD in genetics from UC Davis. He is

a faculty member of the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis where he

teaches general viticulture and grapevine identification. He held the Louis P. Martini En-

dowed Chair from 2000 to 2015 and has held the Louise Rossi Endowed Chair in Viticulture

since 2015.

Dr. Walker has been breeding grapes for nearly 30 years. His lab focuses on grape breed-

ing and the genetics of resistance to pests and diseases where he breeds rootstocks for

resistance to nematodes, phylloxera, fanleaf, drought and salinity, and wine grapes with

resistance to Pierce’s disease and powdery mildew.

Dr. Walker has authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers and has held offices in many pro-

fessional organizations including the Technical Program Director (2011-2015) and Secre-

tary—Treasurer (1999-2004) for the American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV);

and Chair of the National Grape Crop Germplasm Committee (2004-present). He has re-

ceived many professional honors for his outstanding work in genetics.
