Background of Appeasement Appeasement means giving into someone eventhough you know something
bad could happen. This is what caused world war 2.Hitler wanted more land and bussinesses for his country (Germany). So he
decided he wanted to take over Czechoslavkia. Czechoslovakia didn't want
this to happen, but they were to busy arguing with another country. So,Czechoslokia went to the big powers to decide what would happen to them.
Neville Chamberlain the leader of Great Britain at the time flew over toMunich to have a meeting with Hitler. He wanted to compromise with him, the
compromise was, for Germany not to start a war with Great Britain and for
Germany to leave Czechsolovakia alone. Hitler signed the agreement
and Chamberlain flew back to Great Britain to tell the population the good
news. Meanwhile Hitler was already planning on taking of Czechosolakia, andthats exactly what he did. Eventhough he 'promised' Chamberlain he wouldn't.
Chamberlain let Hitler of and gave into him. This meant that Hitler thought he
could do what he wanted, what would make him stop there. He carried on
taking other countrys until finally the 'big powers' started to fight back. This
was the start of world war 2.

Reasons for Appeasement.
• Concession to Germany were justified
• fear of war understandable
• Soviet Union was bad a threat as Germany • Gave Britain time to re-arm as Britains army was to small
and weak.
• Also instead of spending money on re-arming they spent the
money on housing and social care. • many people wanted peace among the nations
• France didnt want to go to war and britain couldnt fight Germany
alone

Reasons against appeasement
• Many people said it didn't work properly and if they wouldhave told him in the first place not to take over any countrys
and comprimised with him, then maybe world war 2 could
have been avoided.
• Appeasement - basically means showing the weakness of your
country by giving into bigger powers.
• Because Great Britain gave into Germany and allowed him to
take over Czechoslovakia he carried on taking over more
countrys and nobody was stopping him. They were basically
letting Hitler walk all over them. Eventhough they did stophim, it was to late as damage had already been done.
