HEALTHY, HUNGER-FREE KIDS ACT OF

2011

This act aims: to change the learning

environment in schools regarding nutrition

create a healthy atmosphere from which children can make eating healthy a habit.

OUR GOALNot to prove the link between nutrition

and achievementRather determine if the current

changes are enough to ensure nourishment and preparation in school systems

HEALTHY, HUNGER-FREE KIDS ACT OF 2010

Created to allow funding for better nutrition and diet care in the nation’s schools

Grants funding to public schools, sets policies, mandating healthy foods and healthy portions.

Allows USDA to create more reforms and policy changes

HHFK ACT OF 2010 Requires schools to serve fruits, vegetables,

and other health food, on a daily basis Whole grains and fat-free (or low fat) milk is

now a regular sight in school lunch lines The goal is to make eating healthy an easy

and delicious experience.

MY PLATEMyPlate divides food groups into four sections each proportioned based on recommended daily intake levels.

WHY MY PLATE WAS CREATEDTo encourage and inspire

consumers to focus on portions, sit down meals, and eating healthy.

It was not created to change eating health habits.

WALT DISNEY

The Walt Disney Corporation has been using their popular characters to advertise healthy eating and daily exercise.

MAGIC OF HEALTHY LIVING This program is used to incorporate new

ways to stay healthy:Trying new foodsTrying new activities and movesOverall trying to be more active

UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

The USDA announced that they are giving grants to schools for support in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act

Idaho was awarded $245,120

Harvard School for Public Health have called for more, clearer

standards

CONCLUSION

The future for children’s nutrition in the school system is headed in the right direction
