Convergence is a fairy tale (told by those who miss the good old days)

Elements of Convergence

• Capabilities of technology

• People doing stuff

• Narrative and storytelling

Technology: are there less devices and channels than a year go? 10 years ago?

Are people all doing the same thing now? Have our activities converged?

Do we consume fewer types of stories? Is there a story-format convergence?

Dispersal

• Technology overlap

• More competition for our time

• Emergent story formats

Real estate:Technology dispersal

• Identify what features and functions are actually valuable.

• Learn to tie features to revenue generation.

A process and mindset of culling is helpful.

Real estate: Dispersal of attention

• Learn where attention is being focused.

• Lead, curate or get out of the way.

An inquisitive and observant mindset is helpful.

Real estate:Dispersal of story

• Non-linear story

• Fractured story

• Social story

• Locative story

• Traditional story

A tinkering mindset and a narrative mindset are helpful.

Just because it's in a blender, doesn't mean it's converging.

If we want to learn, it is our obligation to play—Forrest Mahop
