MOUNT AIRY CONTEXT ANALYSIS

Settled in 1806, Mount Airy consisted mainly of dairy farms. Overtime the land was became eroded because of the destruction of trees and different flowing rivers. So starting in 1911, Cincinnati began buying and planting land for what is now Mt. Airy Forest. After World War II,

just like any other communities, there became a huge influx in suburban areas and mixed residential development. The housing stock consists of rehabilitated farm homes, as well as ranch houses, Colonials, and Tudors. The pictures below show the context of land.

The land use and zoning map both

show that the forestry and park space is the

dominant feature of the neighborhood.

Both maps accentuate the value of the green space to

the neighborhood. Another major feature in the map is housing

and industrial land use.
