Islington Giving was inspired by Cripplegate Foundation’s 2008 report Invisible Islington which highlighted not only poverty but the isolation of Islington’s poorest residents.
What is Islington Giving?
Islington Giving is a campaign – for Islington people by Islington people – to raise £3million over three years to bring together residents, businesses and community groups to support 3 themes:
•Investing in young people•Tackling poverty
•Confronting Isolation
Giving Money is vital to Islington Giving, but Giving Time is just as valuable so Volunteering underpins the whole
campaign
What is Islington Giving?
The campaign is a coalition of charitable trusts who want to work together in a unique and powerful partnership, using their knowledge of Islington to effect real change.

What we have achieved since September 2010:• Raised over £1million to support projects in Islington
• Set up and funded a new grants programme of £500,000 in 2011 to support young people, identify our poorest residents and tackle deprivation.
• Set up new partnerships with BT and Macquarie Bank to develop staff volunteering in Islington for the first time
• Featured as key recommendation of the Islington Fairness Commission
• Featured project in the Giving White Paper as an innovative example of local philanthropY
• Raised the profile of the needs of Islington through involving residents, businesses, and community groups www.islingtongiving.org.uk

• How is Islington Giving funded?All money donated to Islington Giving is spent directly on projects. Cripplegate Foundation, which has an endowment, pays all the running costs.
• Which projects do you work with at the moment?• Help on Your Doorstep reach out to those living in social housing by literally knocking on
their doors to tell them about, and connect them to, services that could improve their life chances.
• The Parent House train local parents as mentors and match them to other parents that need support. Mentors gain skills to help them move towards work and mentees gain confidence and self esteem.
• Investing in young people through opening adventure playgrounds on Saturdays and running Midnight Sports for young people
• Supporting social entrepreneurs to make a positive difference for Islington The UnLtd challenge is allowing individuals to develop their ideas to make a real difference, this really is a campaign for Islington people by Islington people.

Confronting Isolation – Open Call• Our Confronting Isolation programme offers funding of up to £5,000. We have £35k to
spend. • We are looking for partners who can:• Reach the most vulnerable and isolated older residents or those affected by mental ill
health• Provide imaginative activities and services when there is little available, such as at
weekends and in the evenings • Help Islington Giving to promote the need for these services• Encourage Islington residents to get involved in the campaign as volunteers and
supporters
• Priority will be given to:• Organisations which can demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the needs of
Islington residents and show they can reach residents in greatest need• Organisations which can show how they can support the Islington Giving campaign• New and imaginative activities that respond to a demonstrable need• Activities which directly address issues of isolation
Important things to consider• We are looking for projects that reach more and
different people • We are looking for innovative and new ways to
tackle isolation• We are looking for partners who can work with
Islington Giving to help us speak to new audiences and promote the campaign
• Volunteering is an important part of the campaign, both volunteers who can support your service and skills volunteers
The Process
• Deadline for applications: Noon 15th August• Applications will be considered at the next
Islington Giving coalition meeting: 30th September
• Final decisions will be made and letters sent out by mid-October
Money must be spent after letters have been sent and within 12 months
