WHO IS THIS CONFERENCE FOR?
• Graduate and undergraduate students interested in research and careers in polymers and soft matter.
• Students who are interested in sharing their research with and learning from their peers.
• Students interested in an opportunity to meet representatives from industry and national labs.
• Students interested in networking with other young polymer scientists and engineers.
• Anyone who would like to enjoy the Akron/ Cleveland area and all it has to offer!
Symposia topics will include:
• Novel synthetic strategies
• Polymer characterization
• Responsive polymers
• Biomaterials
• Interfacial phenomena
• Soft matter
• Mechanical/rheological properties of polymers and composites
Conference events include pre-conference workshops
on the topics of Biomaterials, Additive Manufacturing,
Modeling and Simulation, and Career Readiness,
a career fair, job interview opportunities with
representatives from industry, government labs, and
academic institutions, and visits to local sites such as
the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Area attractions
include Cedar Point amusement park, the Akron Art
Museum, the Cleveland Zoo and the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame. Students will have a chance to enjoy the city
and surrounding area during the symposium.

THE COLLEGE OF POLYMER SCIENCE AND POLYMER ENGINEERING
The University of Akron’s College of Polymer Science
and Polymer Engineering is recognized as being a top
program in research and education for all areas of
polymers. The program is the largest (~34 faculty, ~300
graduate students and postdocs) and broadest in the
U.S., dating from 1910. Its traditional strengths in new
polymer synthesis and their manufacturing processes
which compound, shape, and assemble polymer products,
have been complemented in the past two decades by
computational simulations, morphological, surface and
optical characterization, as well as a number of added
specializations, such as nanotechnology, biomaterials,
and photonics. College faculty members have generated
over 160 active patents and have licensed technologies
that have been commercialized worldwide.
AKRON, OH
Akron is located about 45 min to the southeast
of Cleveland, and the conference will take place on
The University of Akron campus. Housing will be
available for conference participants in University of
Akron dorms.
Registration is now open and the abstract submission deadline is March 15, 2016.

2016 NATIONAL GRADUATE RESEARCH POLYMER CONFERENCE
Since 1996 the ACS Polymer Chemistry Division (POLY)
has organized the National Graduate Research Polymer
Conference (NGRPC). This is a national conference series
focused on polymer science and engineering for both
graduate and undergraduate students.
The 12th NGRPC will be hosted by The University of Akron’s
College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, in
Akron, OH, from June 19th – 22nd.
