Turn your world upside down◦ partner with other IT and business leaders◦ expand your research base e.g. Gartner (IT),

industry related material (business innovation) Assess whether your organisation needs a

digital strategy. Digital context, opportunities, threats, gaps,

capabilities and synergies. The IT strategy may need to be extended to

create a base for digital strategy.

What can the CIO do?

Redefine the role of the CIO and the IT service offering ◦ get IT right ◦ add a new delivery mode (add bimodal mode of

delivery) ◦ create partnerships – internally and externally◦ build multidisciplinary teams ◦ extend governance to accommodate digital and

define new metrics ◦ define roles and responsibilities and acquire new

skills ◦ bring back the CIO’s killer list - legacy

modernisation◦ lead the development of new business processes or

refine existing business processes

What can the CIO do?

Creating a new world order

The CIO must lead or participate in the organisation’s digital journey.

CIOs need to reposition themselves and the IT organisation as trusted advisors to the business and create both internal and external partnerships in order to deliver digital solutions.

Governance must be extended to accommodate digital initiatives.

Use technology innovation to create business demand.
