The Green was often a mud bath.

Animals were allowed to graze

and markets/fairs, travelling showmen, bear

baiting etc. occupied the

green.

1756Cheadle Hall was built

1810 Act of Parliament allowed manorial Lords of Cheadle to enclose any remaining commons or wasteland this included Cheadle Green.

1875Stumps/posts installed around the

green to stop constant visits and caravans and menageries

1880 James Telford aka “Scotch Bob” started driving his horse drawn carriage service

between Cheadle and Manchester

1889 The Ocklestone memorial and drinking fountain is erected near Cheadle Green in honour of Robert Ockleston, a local doctor

1898Scotch Bob sets a British record for

driving 60,000 miles in a horse drawn carriage

A local character/ legend Scotch Bob d.1929

1932James Watts conveyed the ownership of Cheadle Green to the people of Cheadle

1958Cheadle Hall was demolished and the land opened up for public use as an extension
