Brief Description

Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay lie inCentral, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay lie inthe heart of Hong Kong and are heavilytrafficked. The existing roads along thenorthern shore of Hong Kong Island is

tl ti b d it d i itcurrently operating beyond its design capacity.Hence there is a compelling need to provide anew trunk road – a 4.5 km dual 3-lane “Central

Wan Chai Bypass (CWB)” to relieve the– Wan Chai Bypass (CWB) to relieve theexisting traffic congestion and cater for theanticipated traffic growth. The CWB, consistsof 3.7 km tunnel, will be an expressway, p yrelieving the congestion between the east-west along the northern shore of Hong KongIsland and coping with the predicted trafficflow

Development of Cost Saving Underground Solutions

This project is designed for the rapid population growth andincreased urbanisation in the decades ahead, and will be onef h f d h d llof the major infrastructures in Hong Kong and such design will

surely wide use of underground solutions worldwide.

As the theme of WTC 2017, the project teamresolved “Surface Challenges” and provided“Underground Solutions” for this section ofCentral – Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel
