Types of Visual Disorders

• Strabismus• Lazy Eye• Astigmatism • Cataracts

Strabismus

This condition creates two different images, one from each eye, because the eyes do not point in the same direction.

Lazy Eye

Usually in children, vision does not properly develop in one eye. As a child grows up, improper vision becomes permanent because of the maturation of the brain.

Astigmatism

Due to a formation made in the cornea, vision is blurry. It occurs from any and every distance.

Cataracts

People over the age of 40, the eye becomes clouded around the area of the pupil.

Blindness

Blindness

Blindness can be referred to as a lack of vision, or a complete absence of vision. It can occur from infancy and become genetic, or from illness and other diseases.

How does blindness connect to Psychology?

Well…

• Damage to the temporal tube can occur with the physical disorder of blindness. Also face recognition is a big part of connecting with, and making relationships with people, which very much effects the way our brain processes Physiologically

Blindness connected with the Brain

Helen became blind after a severe illness as an infant. She was both diagnosed as a blind/deaf. The illness had a string fever, and is now nicknamed “Brain fever”.

“The Miracle Worker”

A movie based off of how Helen was taught, through the struggles of being both deaf and blind. It connects with trying to reach the brain without using two of its main connecters hearing, and seeing.
