DESCRIPTION

A January New Year's Resolution series. In this series Jeff challenged his congregation to lose weight spiritually as well as physically. On the spiritual side, he covered four "fatty" areas where Christians need to lose weight: guilt, debt, fear, and mediocrity. On the physical side, Jeff challenged his people to lose 10 lbs. during the month of January and promised to lose work at it with them. He was weighed in each of these Sunday mornings by one of his board members...on an accurate doctors scale...on the platform...while the congregation watched...just before he spoke! Jeff ended up losing 14 lbs. that January and has since shed 50 lbs. over a two and a half year period.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—

of whom shall I be afraid?

When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh,

when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will

stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me,

even then will I be confident.

________ for the root of your fear

Proverbs 20:27The lamp of the

Lord searches the spirit of a man; it searches out

his inmost being.

_________ your

lifestyle

Proverbs 4:18The lifestyle of

good people is like sunlight at dawn that keeps getting

brighter until broad daylight.

__________ your fear for

courage

2 Timothy 1:7For God has not

given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

_________ your ego

Ephesians 4:22-24You were taught, with regard to

your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being

corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true

righteousness and holiness.

__________ your worry

Matthew 6:25-27 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat

or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more

important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
