FROM THE DESK OF OUR COLLEGE PRINCIPAL
Valedic on and Gradua on Week This week is a wonderful week of celebra on when we acknowledge the achievements of our students in Grade 6 and Year 9. I enjoy seeing the look of pride on the faces of the parents, grandparents and family members who a end the special ceremonies that are planned for these special students. Our teachers go to such a lot of trouble arranging these events, deciding on who receives the special awards, sor ng out ckets, catering, sea ng, performances and displaying wonderful student work for us all to enjoy. A nge of sadness is felt as we bid farewell to many families who have been such an amazing part of our College Community o en for more than fi een years.
The End of another Year Your College has a mission that seeks to ensure that all our students perform to their personal best at all mes at school. Student outcomes data that we are collec ng suggests that we are seeing significant improvement in Reading and Mathema cs and the Naplan data supports this in rela on to spelling as well. The feedback that you have given us through the Parent Opinion Survey notes that you are par cularly pleased with the s mula ng learning that is evident in our learning spaces. The now annual Soiree and the College Concert enabled your children to show their ar s c prowess in Visual Arts and Performing Arts. It was terrific to see so many students par cipate in the camps and excursions held during the year. Student leadership has been a feature of Baden Powell College and along with a comprehensive program that involves Class Captains, Campus and College Captains we have two special Rotary Sponsored leadership programs Earlyact and Interact. Our student leaders have organised some pre y amazing ac vi es for their peers and to fundraise for worthy chari es both in the local and interna onal community. Shortly you will receive your child’s school report and I am sure that you will be proud of their achievements. For those who have ordered the College Year Book you will see your child’s work featured proudly. Celebrate your child’s success, talk to them about their future learn-ing goals and be assured that we will be just as determined to facilitate focussed learning opportuni es in 2017.
The Staff As College Principal I have been very fortunate to work with a most amazing group of teachers and support staff. The College Staff has worked extremely hard to provide quality learning for your children. The Leadership team of Assistant Principals and Leading teachers, the Administra ve Team at the front office, the cleaning team and highly professional dedicated teachers and teacher aides have all worked to support our College families. Each year we farewell staff members who leave us for different reasons and we will be forever grateful for the wonderful service given to our College. You will receive no fica on of your child’s teacher for 2017 late next week. We take considerable me and effort to carefully place children in suitable learning spaces with great teachers. Please do not immediately contact us if at first glance your child is not happy with the grade placement as my experience is that by the end of February children have well and truly forgo en any concerns raised in December.
Parents & Friends I would like to thank the wonderful members of the College Parents & Friends who have worked so hard to support Baden Powell College in this very busy year. The fundraising events do ensure that we are able to provide a range of teaching resources for your children, and I strongly encourage you to get connected to the Parents & Friends in the future. You can come to monthly mee ngs, help with projects like the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, or just receive regular emails to keep up to date with the ac vi es of the Parents & Friends.
Voluntary Helpers As a College we have so many people who regularly assist us in the classrooms, and in the Library. We have parents who do the student banking, look a er lost property and assist in the school gardens and we are ever so apprecia ve of this assistance.

College Council The other very important group in the College is the College Council. Your College Council consists of parent representa ves and staff representa ves who meet regularly to form policies and give guidance and support so that we can maintain excellent programs for your children. We are always interested in a rac ng new parents to our College Council so if you are interested please call or email me to talk about this ma er.
The Start of the College Year Last week you will have received le er telling you about the arrangements for the payment for books and requisites for your children for 2017. Many people are using Compass to make the payment required and will only need to collect books on the day designated for either Derrimut Heath of Tarneit.
Parent Teacher Interviews We plan to conduct Parent Teacher Interviews in the second week of Term 1 next year. You will receive a le er about this when you collect your books and supplies next year. Yours in Educa on, Looking Forward, Staying Ahead, ]âÄ|x `táÉÇ College Principal

Thank you to all parents and students who supported the Baden Powell College Concert.
We appreciate you suppor ng the new format for this year and hope that you enjoyed the wonderful talents of our students.
Have a wonderful holiday break from the Concert Commi ee.
As 2016 draws to a close, I would like to thank the Parents and Friends commi ee for their
ongoing help and support. As a team, we have raised close to $23000, which will go towards much needed school resources across both campuses. The team has worked diligently
behind the scenes, coming up with new ideas such as the Halloween Disco, as well as making sure the items in the stalls are as exci ng as
possible for the students to choose from. Over the next few weeks, we have plenty s ll going on, from the Christmas Stalls at each campus, to Carols in the Courtyard held at the Tarneit campus, On behalf of all commi ee members, we wish you a safe and happy holiday and
thank you all for your support. Merry Christmas, Heather Gorman

On Thursday the 24th of November, the Grade 3/4 Future Star regional champions set out to compete in the State Finals of Hoop Time. These six students; Tyson White, Aayan Nadeem, Shirani Singh, Silviu Cringasu, Hannah Fuentes and Denaya Santos played with vigour and integrity and led our school to some impressive results. Winning their first two games, Baden Powell Future Stars qualified for the final 24. Ul mately they lost in a ghtly fought knockout stage, but le nothing on the court. A brave effort by our students! Well Done Team Baden Powell. You made us all very proud.
YEAR 5‐6 RUGBY: THE BILLY SLATER SHIELD Friday the 4th of November we had a rugby comp, we played 6 games and won all of them. When we got to the finals we faced off with the 3 me state final team, The Grange, by the end of the game it was a e.
Then we went to golden try which we got. The boys where exhausted, most of us fell to the ground and couldn’t get up. It felt great to be the first B.P.C rugby team to ever win district undefeated which does feel extremely great. By Ave Friday the 4th of November was a bad but a fun day, only because of rugby. We had it for the whole day which meant I had a whole day off school (YES!!). One way that wasn’t so good was that it was hot, and, to make things worse, it was windy. This also meant I got a dry mouth.
We had to play one game a er the other (which was about six games). But since it was my first me playing rugby it was fun. I also got player of the match and so did some of my other friends, Haretana and Ave. The highlight was we won the grand final and now get to play in State Finals. By Baxter On Thursday 17th of November, the Year 5‐6 Boys Rugby team travelled to Elwood to compete in the Billy Slater Shield State Finals. Schools who’d won their district compe ons from across Victoria contended in a pool compe on to see who’d play in the State Grand Final. Despite the heat, the team played to the best of their ability against strong compe on. In the end, the team from Baden Powell College, ranked third in their pool. Well done to all of the boys who played! By Mr Fellows

BREAKFAST CLUB THANKS YOU
Baden Powell College would like to sincerely thank the wonderful sponsors for our Breakfast Club that we run twice a week at each campus. Without the
support of the magnificent Sikh community including Sunil, Simon Fugazotto and these generous companies we would not have been able to provide for the
many students who enjoy breakfast at school. We sincerely thank you from the staff and students of Baden Powell College.
