Assignment 7 – Target Audience

You can define a target audience by...

A target audience is the intended audience for a film or any other form of media. In marketing and advertising, it is a specific group of people within the target market at which a product or the marketing message of a product is aimed for.

Why is it important for a film to have a target audience?

• In the film industry, recognising and appealing to a target audience is incredibly important because they will be the types of people who watch the film.

• Choosing the target audience early in pre-production is important because they will determine the content of the film.

Our 3 favourite subgenres:• Slasher

•Devil & Demon & Hell

•Phobia & Isolation

Target audience for Slasher subgenre:

• The target audience for the Slasher subgenre would be teenagers and young adults aged between 15-25.

• The reason why is because a lot of the characters in the films are teenagers around this age and also the themes in the film such as drug use and sex appeals to this audience.

Target audience for Demon & Devil & Hell subgenre:

• The devil & demon & hell genre would be focused to people of a higher age range, probably about 18-30 year olds.

• The reason for this is because these films usually contain more of a complex plot and mature themes making them aimed for this age range.

• This subgenre would also be aimed for religious audiences because a lot of these films use religious theories and themes in the plot.

Target audience for Phobia & Isolation subgenre:

• This subgenre would appeal to a wide variety of ages because this particular theme can relate to people of a younger age.

• The age range would be 12+ because the film can appeal to a large audience above the age of 12.

• This subgenre would more specifically be aimed for people who have phobias and feel a uncomfortable watching people embracing their phobias; such as isolation.
