• Bullying can happen to anyone. It is not something to be ashamed of, and you do not need to be afraid to ask for help

• Being bullied does not make you less of a person. People who are bullied can grow up to be the most talented, intelligent, athletic, and beautiful people in the world

What do Bullies Look like??

CLOSE YOUR EYES

TRY TO IMAGINE A BULLY IN YOUR HEAD

WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?WHAT ARE THEY DOING?

Which one is the bully??

Bullies can be anyone

Boys or girls Older or Younger

Big or small Fast or slow

Any variety of interests

Was your bully doing something like this…

• Beating someone up

• Shoving someone in a locker

What about this????

People often think of bullying as something physical but…

• Bullying can include physical

aggression (wedgies, stuffing in lockers)• Bullying can be verbal (name calling, teasing,

threatening)• Bullying can be social/emotional (gossiping,

rumors, exclusion)• Cyberbullying can be done without even having

another person around!!!!!!!

Being bullied can affect your body and your mind

• Bullying can make kids feel sick, have trouble sleeping, feel hopeless, feel fearful, have trouble concentrating

• Physical wounds can heal, but emotional scars can last a lifetime!

• ACTIVITY WITH BARBIE

Ok, So How Can I Deal With a Bully?

• POSITIVE VS. NEGATIVE WAYS TO DEAL WITH A BULLY

• Good body language

Getting adult help

• Many children do not report bullying to school staff, but our teachers, counselor, recess aides, and administrators are all here to help

• An Ashburton survey found that 95% of kids felt that teachers and other adults helped them if they were bullied, 96% of students knew how to get help if they were bullied, and 97% of kids felt safe at school.

Think about it…

• Imagine that you see someone who is being bullied on the playground.

• Stand up if you think you would help that person

Who really helps?

A National Study asked the questions, “What do you do when you see a student being bullied?

• 38%, Nothing, it’s not my business

• 27%, I don’t do anything, but I think I should help

• 35%, I try to help

BYSTANDERS

• Bystanders can spur the bully on or stop the bullying

• A study found that when onlookers acted, 57% of bullying incidences stopped within ten seconds

• You may not be the bully or be the one being bullied but laughing, watching, egging the bully on, or not reporting bullying can make you guilty too!
