Legionnaires,
Summer is nearing its end, and that means time to turn over a new leaf, with new endeavors for the post. As the cold weather and winter sets in, I would like to ask all of you to check on your elderly neighbors and make sure that they are prepared or preparing for the upcoming cold months. November 1st is the date to set clocks back , so that's a good time check your smoke detectors, and change batteries. The same sort of early preparation is needed for the post. We will be asking for volunteers in the next few weeks to help us to clean up the around the post including gutters, installing of gutter guards, grounds as well as some of our storage areas. Hopefully, the weather will be in our favor this time.
As Commander, I want to give a hand salute, first to the fine group of officers that serve as your Legion Officers. They bring with them a vast wealth of experience, knowledge, and pride for the American Legion, and are considered valuable advisors to me as Post 276 continues to move forward.
Secondly, another hand salute goes out the individual units of Post 276. The Sons Of The American Legion, and its outstanding leadership and experienced group of Officers.
The American Legion Riders, its outstanding leadership as well as their knowl-edgeable officers of both the Legion, and motorcycles.
The American Legion Auxiliary, its outstanding leadership and staff of officers, all former presidents or officers who bring a lot of experience to their unit.
I salute you all, keep up the good work! it does not go unnoticed.
I cant close without acknowledging our lounge manager, and his staff, who have an of-ten thankless job, but always come through when things get tough! you all are doing a great job, keep up the good work, and Thank You!
Respectfully,
Mike Lowman

First Vice Commander MEMBERSHIP
I would like to say "thank you" to all the members that have paid 2016 dues. As of this writing the post has 438 paid into the Department, which puts us at 56.2% of our goal of 758. We got off to a great start for the 2016 year. I would like to urge those that have not paid, to please do so. Keep our membership growing. As for the dues increase, at this writing the National Convention is just getting started and from what I've been told it will be approved. So if you have not paid your dues by January 20, 2016, our dues will be increased to $35.00. I just urge you all to pay early As I reported in my last newsletter the Paid-Up-For-Life program was taken over by the National organization as for July 1, 2015 National took the PUFL's out of the post and only way to get one is to go to www.legion.org/pufl and follow their instructions Or you can call Customer Service Specialist at 1-800-433-3318. It is still a good program. THE EARLY BIRD PARTY IS SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 15, 2015 Yours in Legion Service, Phil Surprenant 1st Vice Commander

September - October 2015 News Letter
Our ALA 94th Annual Convention – Was an interesting event. Con-gratulations to Doris Reynolds, our new Department President. We had many guest speakers. Voted on 5 Resolutions and attended the Installation of our Department Officers. We are the “Butterflies” this year.
Fall Conference in Ocean City Nov 6th, 7th and 8th at the Holiday Inn on 67th and Oceanfront. Grand Opening of Hansberger Hall - was a great success…and how about that Roy Orbison Tribute, wasn’t it great. Thanks to all that helped to pull this event together, your help was deeply appreciated.
Some future dates to look forward to:
October 17th – Bus trip to our Northern Legions
October 24th – Children’s Halloween Party 1-4pm
December 19th – Breakfast with Santa
Bingo, we have a tentative date for October 18th; however we have not had good success at Bingo for the past 3-4 years. Discussion for a different type of fund raiser is on the horizon. Stay tuned…
Yours in Service for God & Country, Ramona L. Conroy, ALA Unit President

Honor Flights
Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the sen-ior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally di-verse, free society. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. Our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out. On Oct 3 and 17, our Post will host the New York North County Honor Flight and on Oct 19 we will host the South-ern California Honor Flight. Arrival times for all will be around 5-5:30PM. Stop by and help welcome these groups to our post and shake hands with some really great Americans. It is a heartwarming experience.
