Washington School Teacher RecreatesFamous Painting Using Bottlecaps

Bottlecap Starry Night, byDiana D’Amico

By AIDAN SUPRANOWITZ[Diana] D’Amico, the art teacher

at Washington Elementary School hasmade the famous painting “StarryNight” by Vincent Van Gogh out ofbottle caps.

Mrs. D’Amico was inspired to usebottle caps because of what she sawon the internet, in the newspaper, atart museums, and at a Newark school.

All the students at Washington El-ementary collected bottle caps forthis project, but the fourth gradehelped sort and put the bottle capsinto place.

At first Mrs. D’Amico was ner-vous about what the bottle cap mas-terpiece was going to look like, butaccording to Mrs. D’Amico, “I’mvery happy with the result.”

Students in the fourth grade werechosen for this project because thesestudents learned about Vincent VanGogh and “Starry Night” is his mostfamous painting.

The fourth grade learned how towork together and learned art lessonsabout landscape, such as foreground, middle ground, and background.

Mrs. D’Amico’s project shows thatyou can make anything out of any-thing.

Editor’s Note: Aidan is a fourthgrader at Washington ElementarySchool.
