Mrs. D’Amico was inspired to use bottle caps because of what she saw on the internet, in the newspaper, at art museums, and at a Newark school. All the students at Washington El- ementary collected bottle caps for this project, but the fourth grade helped sort and put the bottle caps into place. At first Mrs. D’Amico was ner- vous about what the bottle cap mas- terpiece was going to look like, but according to Mrs. D’Amico, “I’m very happy with the result.” Students in the fourth grade were chosen for this project because these students learned about Vincent Van Gogh and “Starry Night” is his most famous painting. The fourth grade learned how to work together and learned art lessons about landscape, such as foreground, middle ground, and background.
