Geographically strategic location

Jalalabad city is located in the junction of Kabul river and Kunar river near laghman valley in the eastern part of Afghanistan . It is the most famous and capital city of Nangarhar province. situated near the base of Khyber pass.

mountain ranges, the Hindu Kush to the north and the Safed Kuh to the south.

Demographic characteristics

Jalalabad has a population of around 356274. It has 6 districts, higher density of dwellings is found in 1-5 district and it has a total

area of 12796 hectares. The population is mostly 90%Pashtons,7% Pashais and 3%Tajiks.Pashtu is the main

language of the citizens and people are also fluent in Dari.

Almost all are Sunni Muslims and a minority of Sikhs as well The majority of population in Jalalabad are LIG and MIG with few MIG.so may be 50-

60% population have vehicle per family

The 30-40% of population is busy in agricultural works

Agriculture is the predominant land use at 44% .

Jalalabad is also called the center of social and business activities because it is located near the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan

Oranges, rice, and sugarcane grow in the fertile surrounding area, and the city has cane-processing and sugar-refining as well as papermaking industries.

Road network The road system within the city is rectangular. Total road network is 500kms

Mahipar highway,318kms in length is One the most world scary highway, connecting Kabul city the capital, to Jalalabad and Jalalabad to Peshawar city of Pakistan .

Recreational places Jalalabad city is one the most beautiful city of Afghanistan. The NATO airport was built in this city.

Industrial characteristics

As mentioned before, papermaking industry along with sugar-refining and cane processing industries are located in this city, having positive influence for the economic growth of this city

According to the survey conducted back in 1956, large scale mines of marble and luminous stones could be found from Hisarak to Dor Baba district along the hills of Safed kuh (White Mountains), which is in the vicinity of Jalalabad city.
