S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
بسم ال الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
ل أقسم بهذا البلد
[90:1] Nay! I swear by this city.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
وأنت حل بهذا البلد
[90:2] And you shall be made free from obligation in this city--
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
ووالد وما ولد
[90:3] And the begetter and whom he begot.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
لقد خلقنا النسان في كبد
[90:4] Certainly We have created man to be in distress.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
أيحسب أن لن يقدر عليه أحد
[90:5] Does he think that no one has power over him?
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
يقول أهلكت مال لبدا
[90:6] He shall say: I have wasted much wealth.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
أيحسب أن لم يره أحد
[90:7] Does he think that no one sees him?
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
ألم نجعل له عينين
[90:8] Have We not given him two eyes,
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
ولسانا وشفتين
[90:9] And a tongue and two lips,
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
وهديناه النجدين
[90:10] And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways?
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
فل اقتحم العقبة
[90:11] But he would not attempt the uphill road,
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
وما أدراك ما العقبة
[90:12] And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is?
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
فك رقبة
[90:13] (It is) the setting free of a slave,
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
أو إطعام في يوم ذي مسغبة
[90:14] Or the giving of food in a day of hunger
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
يتيما ذا مقربة
[90:15] To an orphan, having relationship,
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
أو مسكينا ذا متربة
[90:16] Or to the poor man lying in the dust.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
ثم كان من الذين آمنوا وتواصوا بالصبروتواصوا بالمرحمة
[90:17] Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one
another to show compassion.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
أولئك أصحاب الميمنة
[90:18] These are the people of the right hand.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
والذين كفروا بآياتنا هم أصحاب المشأمة
[90:19] And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left
hand.
S ura h a l-B a la d (Th e C ity)
عليهم نار مؤصدة
[90:20] On them is fire closed over.
