WelcomeWe would like to welcome you to our 52nd Annual Fall Production Sale. It has taken 4 generations and now 70 years of registering Hereford cattle to get to this point. I guess we have to give credit to the manageability of the Hereford breed that allows both the young and experienced to work together and enjoy the day’s work. At Fenton Hereford Ranch we try to run our cattle as close to a commercial run operation as possible. We graze late into the fall, turn into the corn with the first snows, and come home to calve in April where they are then paired up and pushed back to grass. We feel it is important that the cattle learn to survive and thrive under ranch conditions. No one animal is deemed more important than another pre birth so there is never any more investment in one that pressures them to be the “next one” rather than watching and letting the next one find you.With input costs rising being the only certainty, our efforts are focused on having the cattle harvest the crops for themselves. It is the Hereford breed that really takes advantage of such opportunity as a top feed efficient animal. With our Canadian winters they stand alone with their depth of hair coat and thickness of hide. I don’t know if we truly appreciate what these intangibles do for our bottom line. When cattle are able to achieve these goals under range conditions they can go onto excel under controlled environments. The consistency needed to improve our product is easily measured in Mother Nature’s Feedlot. At Fenton Hereford Ranch our goal is to provide consistent, productive cattle that will allow our customers the best possible result. Gypsy is an eight yr old red roan gelding. We raised his sire blue son Quincy but his mother was never DNA so he sells as a grade. This is a go to gelding that is very versatile. He has drug calves at numerous brandings, doctored many cattle, and can be taken into the arena to catch any steer. He runs smooth and flat to cattle with his head low and is nice in the box. Gypsy can be left for periods of time where he can be caught, stepped across, and rode off. He has sorted many pairs and will watch a cow, which makes him a treat to ride. Gypsy is a little more than a kids horse but once you get to know him he will put up with a lot. He has been rode and enjoyed by many on the ranch and will be missed.
