Zion Lutheran Church CONNECTIONS June 2016 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Cave Quest is June 20-24 We are going spelunking this year. Join us at Cave Quest. Vacation Bible School is a wonderful way for us to share God’s love with family, friends and neighbors in our community. e morning session (9:30–noon) is filling fast and will close when it reaches 150 children, or June 12. You may register on-line at www.zionsa.org or in the Room 101 of the FLC on Sundays. Late registrations, after June 12, will not be accepted to ensure that enough supplies and volunteers can make it a safe and successful program for all involved. Don’t be disappointed – sign-up now! Again, late registrants and drop-offs will not be allowed. Music CDs are available for $10 each. ey can be purchased in the narthex on Sundays or from Karen Stein during the week. Wear cool, comfortable clothing; activities will be both indoors and outdoors in the summer heat. Children need to wear TENNIS SHOES or CLOSED TOED SANDALS for games and walking around to different stations. Children should eat breakfast before VBS begins in the morn- ing. Activities include a light snack. Both a monetary and physical offering will be collected during the week of Vacation Bible School. e monetary offering will go to Habitat for Humanity to build homes in San Antonio. e physical offering will be school supplies for children in El Cenizo, Texas. Items needed are backpacks, notebooks, construction paper, fold- ers, pencils, mechanical pencils, erasers, glue, tape, rulers, crayons, and markers. A note will be sent home the first day of VBS reminding everyone about the offerings. Stu- dents in grades 2 through high school will work with a professional production staff, with daily instruction in acting, singing and movement on stage. Food ser- vice, tech support, costuming, props, sets, sound and lighting are all part of the production and learning, too. Campers must be available for all six perfor- mances (at right). Fees are $350 for the three-week series, and include daily lunch. Audition & registration deadline is June 20. SUMMER HOLIDAY FOR CHILDREN & YOUTHWeekly Sunday School is on summer break, and will resume August 28 with Rally Day.

ZION ZIPPERSMonday, June 13 at 6:30pm

Adults age 50+ are invited for fellowship and sharing a potluck supper on the 2nd Monday of each month, in the Fellowship Hall. Events begin at 6:30pm. Th e June 13 meeting includes a presentation by the Zion Listening Team. Hosts are Linnell & Dave Brewton, Bev Rosel and Peggy Dame. Bring your dish to share for the potluck, and stay for entertainment and information. Th ere’s plenty

of room for all.

ONE YEAR TO LIVESeptember 30-October 2OYTL is a men’s spiritual retreat hosted by Lutheran Men in Mission (LMM), and off ered several times per year at locations

nationwide. For the fi rst time, it is being held at our own Camp Chrysa-lis in Kerrville this fall, meaning little travel expense and no need to take Friday off from work! Th e name “One Year

• Dorcas Circle meets June 14 (2nd Tuesday of each month). Meet in Fellowship Hall at 10:00am. Elane Jones.

• Women’s Morning Bible Study series on the book “Th is Is Love” by Max Lucado. Meet in Old Nursery (offi ce wing) on June 28 (4th Tuesday) at 10:30am.

• Ruth Circle meets June 20 (3rd Monday) at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Rhonda Knisley.

• Pancake & French Toast Breakfast will be served by WOZ be-tween services on Sunday June 26 in the Fellowship Hall. A free-will off ering will be collected to benefi t Lutheran Disaster Response and the Women of Zion. Recent Lutheran Disaster Response events include U.S. fl ooding and wildfi res; earthquakes in Japan and Nepal; the Middle East and Europe refugee crisis; and unaccompanied and migrant children.

• Jewelry Workshop on Th ursday, June 30 from 7-9:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Supplies will be provided for making bracelets and/or earrings. Th is workshop is open to all women and girls - bring your daughters and/or granddaughters for a fun evening! Snacks and drinks provided. Sign up on the kiosk to ensure enough supplies.

• LWR Quilting is on Th ursdays and Saturdays. Come to the Fellow-ship Hall at 9:00am and learn how to make simple hand-tied quilts to give to Lutheran World Relief. All levels of sewing experience are welcome, including beginners. Elane Jones, below.

• WOZ Helping Hand - Th e Women of Zion would like to lend a hand in time of need, illness or recuperation: a ride to a doctor’s ap-pointment or grocery store. A meal or two, or a little help around the house. If you need some help, or would like to join the new Helping Hand initiative, sign up on the kiosk in the FLC worship entrance, or contact Dawn Rodriguez.

CAM FACILITIES TOURSJune 15: Noon Lunch TourWe are always “collecting” for CAM, but what is there? What do they do there? What does it look like? CAM (Christian Assistance Ministry) tours are conducted at the downtown location, 110 McCullough, on the 15th of each month (ex-cept weekends). Tours begin in the Administra-tion building with Executive Director, Dawn White-Fosdick, who explains the mission of CAM how the operation runs. Breakfast or lunch are included.
