MotivationMotivation
Dark Matter (DM) of ~25% established with good precision:
WMAP: 10% or in 2 range: 0.094<DMh2<0.129
Strong constraint on (SUSY) parameter space Yet there are still many models and DM candidates
Challenge for colliders: What are these non-baryonic cold DM? Any connection between DM and LSP in SUSY? How precise can a LC measure DM relic density?

DM vs. mSUGRA SUSY ModelDM vs. mSUGRA SUSY Model
The precision on SUSY DM prediction depends on M & thus
m Needs smuon (or selectron) analysis mstau Needs stau analysis
The Main Results of hep-ph/0406010The Main Results of hep-ph/0406010
Smuon analysis: Benchmark point D: M=224[msmuon]-212[m]=12GeV
Ecm=500GeV, 500fb-1, unpolarized beams, =7.2 fb the smuon analysis fairly easy msmuon & m can be precisely determined from the muon spectrum with the end point method
Stau analysis: Detailed analysis on D: M=217[mstau]-212[m]=5GeV
The analysis also applied to other benchmark points: A (M=7GeV), C(M=9GeV), G(M=9GeV), J(M=3GeV)
Challenge: background rejection the stau analysis difficult but feasible efficiency=5.7%, mstau=0.54GeV, DM=6.9% ~25% efficiency loss if 20 mrad crossing angle

The Main Results of hep-ph/0408226The Main Results of hep-ph/0408226
Smuon analysis: Case study modified SPS 1a: M=143[msmuon]-
Stau analysis: Case study modified SPS 1a: M=133.2[mstau]-
125.2[m]=8GeV
Ecm=400GeV, 200fb-1, polarized e-(0.8)/e+(0.6), =140 fb mstau=0.14GeV (based on , and 3 tau decay
channels) extrapolation to M=5GeV: mstau=0.22GeV M=3GeV: mstau=0.28 GeV
Another case study D: M=217.5[mstau]-212.4[m]=5.1GeV
Ecm=600GeV, 300fb-1, polarized e-(0.8)/e+(0.6), =50fb mstau=0.15GeV (based on , and 3 tau decay
channels)

Cross-checking Uli’s result in the same condition: use same cuts as Uli, we reproduce his - eff of 7.6% we have less selected events in , & 3 channels & our events consistent with the expectation error propagation formula (Ecm=600GeV):

VETO SM Background ContributionsVETO SM Background Contributions
(Many) orders of magnitude larger than the stau signals
Ideal VETO (hep-ph/0408226):- Efficient veto assumed for all background with Ee, E>5GeV at
<0.125rad
Realistic VETO (physics/0610145):- Fine granularity tungsten/diamond sample calorimeter @ 370cm from
IP- Identify energetic spectator e from events out of huge low energy
e+e- pairs from beamstrahlung
BeamCal @ 370cm VETO efficiency
