Rail Corridor Study
THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS RAIL LINE CORRIDOR STUDY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
IDENTIFY THE OPTIMAL RAIL LINE CORRIDOR WITHIN YUMA COUNTY THAT WOULD CONNECT TO THE UNION PACIFIC SUNSET ROUTE MAIN LINE ON THE NORTH AND POTENTIALLY TO THE FERROMEX RAIL LINE RUNNING BETWEEN HERMOSILLO AND MEXICALI ON THE SOUTH
THE IDENTIFIED RAIL LINE CORRIDOR IS INTENDED TO ENABLE THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO PRESERVE THE NEEDED RIGHT OF WAY FOR THE RAIL LINE TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN THE FUTURE WHEN WARRANTED
DETERMINE THE LOCATION AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RAIL LINE CROSSING OF THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER WITH TENTATIVE APPROVAL OF THE FEDERAL AND LOCAL AND FOREIGN AGENCIES

Route main lineOn the east by South Fortuna Road and its
extensionOn the south by the Ferromex rail line
STUDY OBJECTIVESDetermine a desirable border crossing
location that accommodates future commodity flows.
Recommend a feasible rail corridor in Yuma County between Mexico and Arizona.
Conduct public involvement activities to promote and solicit public input.
Identify short term freight related economic development that can be expanded to meet long term needs.
