What is it?• It has the power to form community - and the power to start a war• For many it costs next to nothing – still they spend billions to buy it• It determines the way we live - without most people even noticing it• We’ve shared it with ancient dinosaurs - and it will be here long

after we’re gone• 1 in 6 people don’t have enough of it – others use it like no one else

needs it• We search for it on distant planets - while we waste it here on our

own• It gives life – it can take life – you might even say it is life itself• Some argue it is a basic human right – others sell it for huge sums

of money• Some walk hours for just a little – others simply reach out for more

than they need• It is the basis of all life – yet we fail to respect it

Global water issuesMore than 1 in 6 people in the world remain without access to safe drinking water.

Over one-third of the world's population has no access to sanitation facilities.

In developing countries, about 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions.

1 out of every 4 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease.

There’s a real problem of access to clean water in many parts of the

world

With some expert guidance local villagers can dig these wells and lay pipelines themselves – costing a fraction of what the large dam schemes cost and

nobody is displaced from the land!
