Welcome to Grange Technology College
Grange Technology College is co-located on the Southfield Grange Campus where we share the site with Southfield School, a special school with in excess of 200
students.
Grange Technology College is an oversubscribed 11-18 school of 1861 students of which 363 are in the sixth form and which continues to grow year on year. We are
committed to providing the highest standard of education and qualification for every student. We welcome people from all cultures, backgrounds and beliefs and
our commitment to equal opportunities is reflected in all aspects of college life.
Facilities to support your studies
June 2011 saw Grange Technology College move into a brand new purpose built campus with facilities and provision that it is hard to rival nationally.
All teaching rooms have interactive smart boards and a set of laptops available for use. There are in excess of 2000 computers available on site and many breakout
spaces available for our students to use to study outside of formal lessons. We have a Learning Resources Centre that can seat in excess of 200 students and cafe
facilities available to access throughout the day for post 16 students. There are specially equipped rooms and facilities in Science, Technology, PE, and Music; along
with a specialist performance space and indoor swimming pool.
The facilities can only really be fully appreciated upon a visit to the campus. I would strongly recommend that you visit the site to fully appreciate what is on offer.

school and ask to speak to Mr Derek Radcliffe (Director of Sixth Form).

Grange Technology College - Post 16
Applications need to be made for a place in the Sixth Form at Grange Technology College. You will
be offered a conditional place which you will need to accept upon receipt of your GCSE results.
As a post 16 student who studied at Grange in Year 11, you may be moved to a new tutor group.
You will be expected to attend all tutorial sessions and support the younger students in the group.
You will be expected to establish new relationships while receiving support, advice and guidance
from your tutor. Students new to Grange will be allocated a tutor group consisting of students from
year 7 to 13. In addition to the assistance you receive from your tutor, you can also seek specific
advice regarding your next steps after Grange from our Careers Advisor, and our UCAS Coordinator.
Effective information, advice and guidance is at the heart of our support of post 16 students.
Independent study is an important part of the lives of our sixth form students. To assist with the
induction of students entering post 16 courses, every student will attend a series of workshops
which cover specific „higher level thinking/learning skills‟. Subject staff will then continue to reinforce
these on a regular basis throughout the year.
Starting a Year 12 course means you will not only be attending high powered lessons, but you will
also be part of a key team; the Sixth Form. You will be expected to set an excellent example in all
you do and take on important responsibilities with regard to supporting younger students. There will
be many opportunities to apply for official positions of responsibility in the Sixth Form, these include
Deputy Head Boys/Girls, Ambassadors, Peer Mentors, Reading Mentors, Prefects and Committee
Members. These all serve to develop leadership skills and support our younger students as well as
the wider running of the school campus and community.
During your course there will be a formal review of your progress each term through discussion with
your tutor at Review Days. There will also be post 16 Progress Evenings in November and March
which will give you and your parents the opportunity to meet with subject teachers to review your
performance and set specific targets to enhance academic performance. To have a realistic chance
of being successful on your courses and in your final examinations it is a college requirement that
you have demonstrated at least satisfactory attainment at these progress reviews.
If you fail to make satisfactory progress following the implementation of any support put in place,
you will not be offered the opportunity to repeat courses/modules. A careers interview will be
arranged for you to look at other options available to you.
As a student in the Sixth Form you will automatically be registered and expected to become actively
involved in the „Grange Technology College Active Citizenship Award‟ scheme. This has continued to
prove very successful in complementing the academic side of your post 16 education.
As Grange Sixth Form Students, you are recommended to get involved in a variety of Higher
Education events and advised to register for the Bradford University „COMPACT‟ scheme. By taking
advantage of the opportunities it offers, as well as gaining valuable and useful skills for the future, it
can result in collecting 30 extra UCAS points! Should you choose to apply and be successful in
securing a place, we look forward to welcoming you in 2013 and celebrating every success you
have.

Important Information for all Level 2/3 Sixth Form Courses 2012
Re-taking Maths and English GCSE Perhaps the two most important qualifications that are required for young people today are GCSE
Maths and English. You will have read that securing them at a grade C is a requirement for a large
numbers of courses run at Grange. They are also required by all Universities to study beyond
Grange and increasingly employers are requiring a C and above in order to be considered for certain
levels of employment. Those students that do not secure a C or above in GCSE Maths and English
will automatically be put into re-take classes where they will be able to sit the examination at the
end of the year.
Studying ICT in the sixth form In addition to the Maths and English GCSE qualifications, skills in ICT are also essential now for the
workplace. All students who have not already achieved an ICT qualification at GCSE (or equivalent)
at a grade C will be put on to an ICT Functional Skills course. This will enhance your qualifications in
readiness for work.
Offering students a place to study at Grange Sixth-Form Students who apply to Grange and meet all of the criteria concerning their attitude to learning and
their predicted grades will receive a conditional offer letter. This letter will detail which courses have
been applied for and what the conditions are that will need to be met academically.
All offers are made subject to the course running.
Applying to University Many students apply to Universities to study courses at degree level after their A2 courses. The
grades you achieve at your KS5 course carry a point‟s tariff.
