Oftentimes what comes to your mind

when you hear the word self-care?

An afternoon spent in a luxurious spa,

treating yourself to a decadent chocolate

cake perhaps, binge-watch Netflix series

or on an expensive holiday? Sure, these

things are very enjoyable and give us a

much-needed break from the monotony

and stresses of life. But are they really acts

of self-care?

These days, we are seeing an ever-

increasing trend of entertainment outlets.

Pre-corona times meant weekdays filled

with stressful work or studies and

weekends dedicated to outing with friends

or family interspersed with “self-care”

activities. COVID lockdown suddenly put

a halt on all these things and forced us to

stay home.

Locked up at home, we became limited in

the things we could do and missed out on

all the treats and temptations of the outside

world which we had considered normal!

This drove people crazy as they were

unable to fill their time meaningfully at

home with themselves and their near ones.

The youth age is the foundation of new thoughts, new

ideas, looking at new horizons. It is a time when we

have good courageous thoughts to take daring, brave

steps. We take decisions like where to study, what to

study, where to get employed, what to learn and

many more things.

There is queue everywhere, in every field and place

and to move out of such crowd one needs to take

initiatives, to remain alert about what is happening

around and how to respond to the situation. Initially

people may laugh at you, look at you with pity faces.

But you need to be confident, move on with your own

convictions, put all your energy and passion and keep

following what you have thought for.

This Diwali, I wish you to bring more maturity in

understanding your life, the life of people around you

and add happiness in it. Though many of you may

have passed through uncertain, dull, unpredicted

time during COVID 19, but life goes on and we need

to create our own future.

Happy Diwali.

Social force is shaping our life and future. Social contribution is

enormous which we never realized. Society acts as an audience.

Society is reviewer and rectifies also without any charges. Evoke

and Evolve.

When we wake up in the morning to start our daily life, we get many

things readymade - from morning milk to newspaper to street light

at night. We get water, electricity, gas, etc. Someone produces food,

someone sells. We have teachers to shape us, to teach us. There are

schools, colleges, educational systems and playgrounds, places to

work. Someone covers us from the enemy, watching day and night

at the border. We see varieties of citizens and their contribution to

the society - healthcare staffs to garbage collectors, policemen to

postmen. We should be so grateful.

Many times, we don’t realize their presence and importance. As a

part of the society, how am I contributing? How can I contribute? I

should have a desire, an aspiration. Society organises so many

festivals to keep us happy and motivated. It is easy to disturb or

destroy but difficult to build. So instead, we should safeguard public

places and its sanctity. It isn’t one individual who prepares such a

long road from Delhi to Mumbai but it’s the country, the

government, the society, the community that play this important

role.

Whenever someone compliments me for doing good things or work,

I reply to them that a lot of people and institutes have worked in

designing me. I am supposed to give at least this kind of output. It is

in the society we establish our supremacy, name, fame and relations.

However great we may be, but without the presence of people we

are simply empty. It is the society who recognises and values our

contributions, talents and positions. Youth must not lose faith in

humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are

dirty, it doesn’t mean the ocean becomes dirty.

Dr T. P. Chia said: “A society’s morality depends on how it treats

the weak and the poor”. Someone also said “Remember, your value

is not determined by you, but by others around you”. So be

considerate of others. We build the society, we are the bricks of this

social building. Everyone should realize their own responsibility and

social obligation to pay back. There are numerous temples, mosques,

churches, gurudwaras, pagodas, etc. These religious places are there

to be religious, ethical and positive. And we also have many spiritual

places where we learn also how to rise and be positive. Positive

thinking, meditations, good wishes and pure feelings are important

for the self and the society. Cooperation is a great power.

So this begs the question, what really is self-care?

If we take care of ourselves in its true sense, then

why do we feel miserable when we find ourselves

in such unexpected situations? Just imagine a life

where we do not even feel the need for breaks and

everyday can be so fulfilling and joyous like as if

there is no tomorrow!

The subject in question here requires a little

clarification on the word “self” itself. When we

refer to self, we think of this body and

consequently, do things which satisfy the bodily

needs and pleasures. By all means, the body

undoubtedly needs taking care and we need to be

clean and presentable. However, there is a deeper

aspect within this body which is called by many

different names such as spirit, atma, soul or

consciousness that needs an even more delicate

and constant care. It is a living energy that drives

all our actions and reactions. Weakness in the

soul is responsible for our tiredness,

hopelessness, fear and depression which reflect

on our face and impact our temperament.

Depletion in the spirit causes imbalance in

relationships, affects the environment around us

and wreaks havoc on our mental health. This

negativity is also manifested in physical health in

forms of various diseases. On the other hand,

miracles happen when we give adequate

nourishment and pampering to the self (soul)

everyday. Soul-care revives us and gets us out of

the slumber. We feel energetic and begin to see a

new wave of freshness in life. Not only will our

faces glow but our entire being becomes radiant

and we will be beaming with positive energy

which we can spread to others. By starting and

ending the day with a positive note can do

wonders to the self. Now this is true everlasting

self-care, isn’t it?

The wheel of time is turning, bringing delicate situations. The present Covid Pandemic teaches a lot. Youths who used

to go to an institute or college are studying online. Employed youth are working from home with a pay cut. Many are

unemployed. The scenes are likely panicking, disturbing and desperate. Nevertheless, we must learn how to remain

calm, confident and cool in such a delicate situation.

Confidence strengthens thoughts in difficult times. Confidence doesn’t allow weak thoughts to overpower positive

ones. Confidence feeds positive thoughts rooted with conviction and belief. A confident person doesn’t allow the

feeling of uneasiness and being low to dominate the mind and life in general. The practice of self-affirmations like -

success is my birthright, everything good will happen to me, everything shall pass, nothing last forever, etc. Because

the truth is that things keep moving. Crises, problems and situations are not forever.

Calmness: Situations insist one to react, to respond, to answer and to reply in certain ways. Youth should remain calm

while responding to adverse situations. Calmness helps to see the actual picture, the situation as it is, even helping to

take decisions on how to respond and when to respond. Calmness is the natural nature of the soul. It frees from the

feelings of irritation, uneasiness, anxiety etc. and it helps to make proper decisions. Therefore, pause or postpone or

hold for a moment. Don’t be reactive or impulsive.

Being Cool: Remaining energetic is good but losing coolness under aggression or adversity is bad. If mental coolness

is lost, then mental balance and self-control is lost also. In a war, the enemy always tries to lose the temper and the

patience of the adversary. Then under pressure they don’t act as per the plan, rather acts under tension and restlessness.

Under such situations, the mind doesn’t work properly and makes mistakes. So, when there is coolness then there is

self-control, psychological balance and an increase of decisiveness. Coolness does not mean to be non-active, rigid,

non-reactive or feeling sleepy but to maintain speed and rhythm with proper self-control. In-depth, understanding of

the process with self-confidence can keep one focused and cool. Coolness is the understanding of utilizing the inside

fire in a controlled manner. The opposition will always try to disturb, to irritate, uncontrolled and frustrated, using

words and actions to suppress. Coolness and a well-composed mind remains focused and it succeeds.

Coolness, calmness, and confidence are three important virtues and a need of the hour. Cultivate these qualities in life.

This can make you and your family life happier, healthier, and protected. Crisis gives various opportunities. See the

silverline in the cloud and make the best use of the evolving opportunities to be successful. Remain connected to the

Almighty, the bestower of confidence, courage, knowledge and coolness and calmness will develop automatically.

22-year-old is helping kids deal with depression:

According to the World Health Organization, about 200

million people in India suffer from depression. Twenty-

two-year-old Kairavi Bharat Ram is one of them. And

she is on a mission to help others like her. At the end of

the day what helped me was the knowledge that there

are other people like me who are battling depression and

I am not alone in this. I decided to write a book. So that

I, too, can reach out to people like me and help them in

some way,” said Ram, who is better now but still has

good and bad days. Source: TOI, Delhi News, Oct 7, 2020
