Pastor Drex MortonPraying Boldly

Pastor Drex Morton is an adherent of prompt and bold prayer. Whether online or in line while waiting at the Post Office, Pastor Drex will frequently pray for others in “other-than-churchy” settings. If you want to pray for others boldly, then Pastor Drex will disclose to you his approach to praying for others.

And if there is enough interest, Pastor Drex will also offer to help participant Leaders address something with which many of us seem to struggle: Self-Care and Mutual Care. The Caregiver is often the one in need of care. Pastor Drex is self-described as an earthen vessel who endeavors to share the Treasures of the Triune God; in other words, a “cracked pot” for the Lord...

Redefine 9

Shaina Sondakh and Kirsten Dolsen

Bio (as written for Saline High School year book)

New Women’s Youth Group

Faith, life, truth, relationships, love, community, mind, beauty and self. These are the nine works that Saline female students wanted to redefine. Redefine 9 was a new women’s youth group that examine how having Christ in their lives helps them “redefine” their thoughts and views on these nine characteristics.

“I wanted to start this group to create a Christian community at Saline High School, to help girls grow their faith and be open about sharing their faith with others, “senior Clair Conzelmann said. “We usually meet for an hour, eat food, and have a discussion based around one of the nine characteristics.”

A small group of student leaders started meeting last fall, and the group continued to gain new members. The group was led by Kirsten Dolsen, a Saline Middle School Cross Country coach, and Shaina Sondakh a Saline High School alumna. These leaders provided the members with experiences and activities that helped them grow to be women of God.

“I like that it gives us the opportunity to meet people who we have something in common with, and who we otherwise might not have any reason to Know,” junior Ellie Beekman said.

Life UntetheredThe story of Jetty RaeLiving minimally is second nature to Jetty Rae and her family. After travelingthousands of miles on backroads and byways, Rae heeded the call for a lifeunconventional. Taking a leap deep faith she let go of most of what she ownedand took up residence in a vintage ‘79 Airstream. Her tribe in tow, (husband, 2children and pug), their new permanent address is a silver bullet - the kind yousee from time to time being towed down the interstate. Jetty’s new untetheredlifestyle is the ultimate expression of both her artistic and personal freedom. “Iinherited my nomadic nature from my Grandmother, the original Jetty Rae” sheexplains. “Her love of the open road and wanderlust spirit exemplifies who I amtoday. I love the idea of being rich in adventure vs. being rich in stuff and things.”Rae’s new album, Can’t Curse the Free, draws from her experiences untethered, meeting characters and soaking in iconic western scenery. “There is such ainspirational severity in the western landscape. It captured my imagination.” It’sher first full-length release in more than four years. The 10 songs that make up the new record are hopeful, determined and resilient,as Rae filters her own experience through the perspectives of the charactersshe’s writing about here.

“Queen of the Universe” was written for someone who was having familialtrouble. “It’s about a power struggle and I crafted the song to ease the tension.“Take me to the Mountain” was the first song I ever wrote on a drum loop. It hasa twinge of an old gospel hymn and there’s a good amount of longing in it. It’s the“cry of your soul” kind of song. I wanted to honor my Native American roots inthis song... I channeled the vistas you’d see in the place my grandmother grewup in Happy Camp CA.”On “In the Garden,” Rae sings about a mom who lost both of her sons, her voicea comforting salve over accompaniment that builds from sparse guitar and a hintof brushed drums to something antemic and heartfelt. The title track, “Can’t Curse the Free,” was written at the bequest of Rae’s 17year old brother. “It’s about an imaginary character who feels cursed, and needsto break out. The victory, however, is that there is no curse great enough to holdcaptive a truly free spirit.”

Life UntetheredThe story of Jetty Rae“I hope that when people hear my songs they hear their own stories being toldback to them. As a songwriter I want to help people understand themselves on a

new level and think – that is exactly what I’ve been trying to articulate for myself.”Rae says. “These songs are for the down and outers, the lost and hopeless, forthe longing the troubled. There is hope, and it’s in connection. We will connect, you and I, through these songs.”

You are encouraged to bring your instruments and song ideas for this workshop.
