program helps to prevent the illegal dumping of hazardous materials and extend the life of our municipal land-fills. This program has the potential to divert over three million litres of antifreeze from traditional waste cycles, which is good news for our environment and for our quality of life.”
Increasing the number of recycla-ble products was championed by the Saskatchewan Association for Resource Recovery Corporation (SARRC), which operates the prov-ince’s approved product manage-ment program for used oil, used oil filters and related products on behalf of the industry. Key industry stew-ards and stakeholders support the expansion of the used oil recycling program. Public support is also strong, as indicated in a 2013 public opinion survey commissioned by SARRC.
“SARRC appreciates the support of the Minister and his ministry in updating the regulations to include these new products in our recycling programs,” SARRC Executive Director Phil Wrubleski said. “Antifreeze, DEF and antifreeze containers and diesel fuel filters are logical extensions of recyclable materials captured through SARRC’s province-wide net-work of registered collectors and nearly 300 collection points.”
Under the new regulations, manu-facturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers can collect and recycle these additional petroleum products through the SARRC program. The changes come into effect January 1, 2014.
For more information on provincial recycling programs, visit the Ministry of Environment’s website at www.environment.gov.sk.ca/recycling.

On September 17, 1976, NASA publicly unveils its first space shuttle, the Enterprise, during a ceremony in Palm-dale, California. Development of the aircraft-like spacecraft cost almost $10 billion and took nearly a decade. In 1977, the Enterprise became the first space shuttle to fly free-ly when it was lifted to a height of 25,000 feet by a Boeing 747 airplane and then released, gliding back to Edwards Air Force Base on its own accord. Regular flights of the space shuttle began on April 12, 1981, with the launching of Columbia from Cape Canav-eral, Florida. Launched by two solid-rocket boosters and an external tank, only the aircraft-like shuttle entered into orbit around Earth. When the two-day mission was com-pleted, the shuttle fired engines to reduce speed and, after descending through the atmosphere, landed like a glider at California’s Edwards Air Force Base. Early shuttles took satellite equipment into space and carried out various scientific experiments. On January 28, 1986, NASA and the space shuttle program suffered a ma-jor setback when the Challenger exploded 74 seconds after takeoff and all seven people aboard were killed. In September 1988, space shuttle flights resumed with the successful launching of the Discovery. Since then, the space shuttle has carried out numerous important missions, such as the repair and maintenance of the Hubble Space Telescope and the construction and manning of the Inter-national Space Station. A tragedy in space again rocked the nation on February 1, 2003, when Columbia, on its 28th mission, disintegrated during re-entry of the earth’s atmosphere. All seven astro-nauts aboard were killed. In the aftermath, the space-shuttle program was grounded until Discovery returned to space in July 2005, amid concerns that the problems that had downed Columbia had not yet been fully solved.

Healing Journeys Through Art October 4 & 5, 2013 Friday 7-10 pm & Saturday 8 am - 5 pm Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre Workshop Fee: $50 (includes breakfast & lunch on Saturday)
The workshop will include a keynote address by Bonnie Chapman on Friday evening and two workshops with Bonnie on Saturday: “The Soul and the Arts: Creativity, Compassion & Community” and “The Body, Voice and the Arts: Energy, Spirit, Mindfulness”. Mini workshops by local artists will also be included such as rhythm & African drumming with Trea Jensen, clay with Stephen Girard & Shon Profit and writing with Ted Dyck. Workshops will include hands-on art activities that require no previous art experience, just a willingness to participate and explore! Bonnie Chapman is a Regina-based artist who exhibits, lectures and consults internationally. She is completing a M.Ed. in Art, Healing, Spirituality and Social Justice and writing a book on art expression as an integral component of whole person healthcare. She has been serving as Head of the Creativity for Health program for the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Bonnie’s keynote address and workshops will explore how creativity promotes health and wellbeing, integrating your body’s life experiences and expressing your spirit’s energy flow through art making, self-compassion, mindfulness and personal reflection. Bonnie will identify tangible opportunities to build common ground through the arts to advance shared goals for healing the body, mind and spirit and transform the way people are being cared for on the healing journey. This workshop will be of interest to those on a personal healing journey, educators, artists, health care professionals and caregivers. 41
