Act 1 Act 2 Act 3 Act 4 Act 5
This is the end of the play where there is a real climax to the tragic events which have been building. It represents the end of four more lives (Romeo, Juliet, Paris, Lady Montague). It is also an Act where events become very frantic as characters rush around as the Friar’s plan begins to unravel. This is an explosive ending to the play.In the very final lines, the play ends on a more positive note hopeful of an end to the feud between the two families.
Scene 1: Romeo has nightmares about death. Romeo hears from Balthasar that Juliet is dead. Romeo orders a horse and goes back to Verona where he orders a poison.Scene 2: Friar John tells Friar Lawrence that he wasn’t able to deliver the letter telling Romeo about the plan of Juliet’s fake death. Friar Lawrence orders a crowbar and heads to Juliet’s tomb.Scene 3: Romeo and Balthasar get to Juliet’s tomb where they meet Paris, who is protecting the tomb against robbers. Paris and Romeo fights – Paris is killed. Romeo goes into the tomb and kills himself using the poison. Juliet awakes to find Romeo dead. She kisses him in the hope some of the poison on his lips will kill her too. The Friar pleads with her to come out of the tomb. She stays and kills herself. The Watchmen arrive with the Prince, the Capulets and Montagues. The Friar tells them what has happened, and a letter from Romeo confirms his story. Both heads of the family vow to erect a statue for Romeo and Juliet.
