When it comes to fun and games, there’s nothing like the classics. We’re talking ring toss, balloon pop, shooting arcade —those old-school staples of the carnival midway. Well, leave it to the Toy Story bunch to take those timeless games of skill and give them a totally new twist!
In the new Toy Story Mania! attraction, inspired by Disney•Pixar’s hit Toy Story fi lms, you can try your hand— or rather, your spring-action shooter— at 4-D versions of these popular games. Oh, and did we mention you’re the size of a toy? Th at’s right, from the moment you enter the attraction’s queue, you join the ranks of Andy’s favorite playthings in their self-created midway shooting gallery. Just to make sure you don’t get lonely, Woody and some of his pals —including Buzz, Rex, and Hamm— are there to greet you and cheer you on as you unleash a barrage of virtual darts, pies, eggs and other assorted ammo at equally-odd targets.
Opening June 17 in Disney’s California Adventure ®
Park, Toy Story Mania! off ers players the chance to take on each other, or the scoreboard, in a race to rack up the most points. And it doesn’t matter how young or old you are, everybody will have fun playing along. It’s easy! It’s fun! It’s pure mania!

Sue’s Super Score Boosters
We asked Show Producer Sue Bryan of Walt Disney Imagineering to give our APs a little private tutoring. As a result, you’ll fi nd fi ve of “Sue’s Super Score Boosters” tips scattered throughout this issue of Backstage Pass. Keep your
eyes peeled, because just like the targets in Toy Story Mania!,
Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Concept Writer Kevin Rafferty and Mr. Potato Head. Kevin is the one with the nametag.
“SpokesSpud”How do you bring a giant toy potato to life? Ask Kevin Rafferty!
Before you even enter the interactive 4-D world of the new Toy Story Mania! attraction, you encounter what may be the biggest Mr. Potato Head you’ve ever seen— and certainly the most entertaining! Senior Concept Writer Kevin Raff erty of Walt Disney Imagineering tells us more about this spectacular spud.
Backstage Pass: What’s so special about this particular Mr. Potato Head?
Kevin Rafferty: Th anks to a new “Guest Location Grid” monitor, his eyes have the ability to look at an individual Guest and make them absolutely believe he is focused on and talking directly to them— and he is! He is the fi rst Audio-Animatronic® fi gure ever to have the ability to take off — and put back on— a body part. He can actually reach up, grab his ear with his hand, snap it off , and pop it back on. Th at was an incredibly diffi cult challenge to hand to our dimensional animation team. Th ey pulled it off , but it took many “ears” to perfect!
BP: Will Guests be able to interact with him?Kevin: Mr. Potato Head is going to amaze and
surprise everyone who sees him, because he is the fi rst attraction-based Audio-Animatronic® performer ever created by Walt Disney Imagineering that can engage in conversation with Guests —whether it be an individual or an entire group —for as long as they choose to hang around with him. Unlike
Roz at Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! —who was designed to perform short sequences only as Guests ride by—
Mr. Potato Head performs continuously. I guess you could say his ability to
deliver constant comments would make him a “comment tater.”
BP: Does Mr. Potato Head celebrate the holidays?
Kevin: Th ere’s nothing a toy likes better than the holidays — so, yes,
Mr. Potato Head’s performance will be updated with some seasonal surprises!
play. Just choose whatever you want to aim at. We’ve worked hard to create a fantastic experience for people with no playing experience whatsoever, but also challenging if you’re into games.”
Dream Squad taps more APs for dream-come-true experiences
For many Annual Passholders, just spending the day at the Disneyland® Resort Th eme Parks is their idea of a dream day. But for some, the day gets even dreamier when they learn that they’ve been chosen to win a prize in the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway!
Take, for instance, Lincoln Mills of Palm Springs, California. Recently, the six-year old was playing in the Parks with his dad, Joshua, and his aunt, Sabrina. Th e three APs had just returned from a trip to Wonderland (courtesy of a friendly caterpillar) when the Dream Squad chose young Lincoln at random to receive a World of Disney® store shopping spree! (Because of his age, Lincoln’s dad accepted the prize on his behalf.) Unfortunately, Lincoln’s mom was in the hospital and couldn’t make the trip. But Lincoln made sure she enjoyed some Disney magic by choosing some special presents just for her.
Now, going on a Disney shopping spree is pretty cool, but Dale Wolfson from Simi Valley, California, may have the best story to tell. He and his family, including son Jack, went on a “wild ride” that took them all the way to the Disneyland® Dream Suite —the private luxury apartment located in New Orleans Square. Besides being APs, the Wolfsons are also big fans of Disneyland® history. So getting to spend a night inside the Park—in a suite inspired by Walt Disney himself—was a real dream come true!
Dream On!Suite DreamsAPs give “thumbs up” to the Disneyland® Dream Suite!
One of the benefi ts of registering your email address at Disneyland.com/ap is the chance to receive special communications and invitations. For example, back in early March, several APs were randomly invited to tour the all-new Disneyland® Dream Suite, located inside Disneyland® Park. Here’s what these lucky Passholders had to say about this amazing experience:
“Th e Dream Suite was gorgeous…just breathtaking.” — Sarah Green
“Absolutely incredible…it was just like going to a museum.” — Pat Blake
“An absolutely beautiful tribute to Walt Disney and his Dream.” — Irene Matson
“All the detail that was in it was just unbelievable.” — Brian Anatello
“It refl ected the best aspects of Disney…It reminded me of things I’ve seen over the decades when I’ve been enjoying my Pass here at Disneyland®.” — Mike Phillips
Young Lincoln Mills goes on a World of Disney ® store shopping spree, thanks to the Dream Squad.
The Wolfson family had their dreams come true in the Disneyland® Dream Suite.[P
you can use the spring-action shooter in any particular scene, so you don’t have to worry about losing your supply of projectiles.”

It is up to Prince Caspian and the four children to rescue Narnia and restore justice to the kingdom! Find out more about this epic motion picture at Narnia.com.
What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn off the last robot? Th at’s the premise of WALL•E, the new computer-animated cosmic comedy due out June 27 from Academy Award®-winning writer-director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) and the inventive storytellers and technical geniuses at Pixar Animation Studios (Th e Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille).
After hundreds of lonely years doing what he was built for, a determined little robot named WALL•E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter —Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL•E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to
space to report her fi ndings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it
is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL•E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most exciting and imaginative comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen.
Joining WALL•E on his fantastic journey across a universe of never-
before-imagined visions of the future is a hilarious cast of characters, including a pet cockroach and a
heroic team of malfunctioning misfi t robots.Filled with surprises, action, humor
and heart, WALL•E was written and directed by Andrew Stanton, produced by Jim Morris, co-produced by Lindsey Collins and features original and innovative sound design by Academy Award® winner Ben Burtt (Star Wars, Indiana Jones™, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). Take a sneak peek at their work at Wall-E.com.
And be sure to keep your Visual Input Devices (also known as “eyes”) peeled as you play in the Park this summer. You might just catch a glimpse of the newest Pixar pal mingling with our human Guests. Of course, WALL•E’s in-Park appearances are subject to change without notice. But if you should miss him there, you can always catch him on the big screen.
Watch For WALL•E Disney•Pixar’s newest Character might pop up in Disney’s California Adventure® Park!

St. Joseph Hospital reminds you to fi ll up—with water! No doubt about it, water is the single most important
thing you can put into your body. Besides quenching your thirst, it transports nutrients to your organs and oxygen to your cells. It also removes waste and protects your joints and organs.
So how much of this life-sustaining liquid should you drink each day? Well, here’s a simple formula: take your current body weight and divide it by two. Th at’ll give you the number of ounces of water you should drink each day to stay properly hydrated. For example, a 160-lb. person needs to drink 80 oz. of water daily.
It’s especially important to stay hydrated when you’re on the go —like when you’re playing in the Disneyland® Resort Th eme Parks! Carry a bottle of water with you (you’ll fi nd them at all outdoor vending and dining locations), or stop for regular water breaks at the many drinking fountains located throughout both Parks.
And while you’re at it, be sure to drop by Innoventions in Tomorrowland to check out the “Healthy U” exhibit, sponsored by your friends at St. Joseph Hospital. You’ll have fun and pick up some more healthy tips at the same time! Don’t forget to visit sjo.org/DisneylandAP to sign up for the Healthy-U e-newsletter for more health news.
Run, Walk Or Lend A Hand!Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend is fun for everyone!
You don’t have to be an athlete to be a part of the fun when the Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend returns to Anaheim this Labor Day Weekend, August 29-31. Volunteering on race day, Sunday, August 31, or at the pre-race Health & Fitness Expo, August 29 & 30, is a great way to meet new people and contribute to a healthier community.
Of course, if you do love to run, the Disneyland® Half Marathon is one of the most memorable races you’ll ever participate in. Beginning and ending at the Disneyland® Resort, the 13.1-mile route takes you in, around and through some of Anaheim’s most iconic landmarks —including both Th eme Parks and the Downtown Disney® District. Entry fees are: Half Marathon–$100, 5K Run–$40, Kids’ Races –$10. All entry fees are non-refundable.
To register for any of the races, or for more information about volunteering, visit DisneylandHalfMarathon.com.
