In addition, service your air conditioner with a licensed coolant contractor. Scrub mildew off of the exterior of your home and treat decks for mildew and fungus. Mold can cause structural damage as well as health problems. Trim any trees or shrubs away from the house. Branches are accelerants in the case of a fire, so keep them away from your home. Hose off the exterior of your home. Winter sludge doesn’t just build up on cars! Inspect screens and repair any holes to keep flying insects out of the house. After a long winter, snow and ice build-up can sometimes damage delicate screens. Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. You simply don’t want a low battery in these important devices. Use silicone spray on patio door and window tracks for smooth operation.
