As an avid traveler, there is a lot that goes into planning each trip you take. Whether you are embarking on a quick business trip for just a few days, or you are taking off on a world-class vacation, there are many steps involved prior to your airplane approaching the gangway.

Of course, you must first book your travel itinerary, which includes plane tickets, any transportation to and from the airport and while at your destination, along with your lodging. Then, you must pack a suitcase and determine whether or not you want to check your bag or tote it alongside you to stow inside the plane’s cabin. Keep in mind, still, that you need to determine if everything in your luggage is suitable for flight, be it an aerosol that might combust while stored below you, or a bottle of mouthwash that does not meet the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) guidelines for carry-on liquids.

In order to alleviate some of the recurring stressors endured by travelers each and every day, enroll in TSA’s PreCheck program.

If you happen to be a low-risk traveler, there’s a great chance you are eligible to enroll in TSA PreCheck.

What this means is that you can make it through security checkpoints and to your gate quicker, so you can eliminate any unforeseen airport issues and make it to your departure gate with ease.

If you are interested in learning more about TSA PreCheck procedures and eligibility, continue on, and our comprehensive guide will provide every-thing you need to know to sign up as efficiently as possible.

No more long lines at security. No more un-packing your bag so it can get analyzed under an X-ray machine. No more clothing and acces-sory removal. Soon, you will be on your way to a breezier airport experience, and leaving any hassles behind by the curbside right where they belong!

TSA PreCheck is a program now available to low-risk travelers, providing them with an opportunity to go through expedited security checkpoints, both nationally and internationally. Keep in mind, that in order to utilize TSA PreCheck, the airport from which you departure must partake. Read more about the program itself, the eligibility requirements, how to apply and more below.

WHAT IS TSA PRECHECK?

Page 7: YOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK …airportprecheck.org.s3.amazonaws.com/pdf/checklist/precheck/guide.pdfYOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK PROCESS AirportPrecheck.org. ... into

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Transportation Security Administration was sent into operation via the Aviation and Transportation Act, which was signed on November 19, 2001, and passed by the 107th Congressional body.

Due to the terrorist attacks, which involved the hijacking of airplanes to utilize as building bombs, the United States government sought to strengthen security tactics at airports throughout the country, and thus the TSA was born. The first and only mission of the TSA is to prevent similar attacks from occurring in the future.

The reinforcement of commercial aircraft cockpit doors to protect from violations and intrusions, including small firearms and fragmentation devices (grenades).

The creation and facilitation of an explosives detection system throughout the country, which screens all bags and belongings, which are reviewed for explosive devices regularly.

Random screenings and stricter ID verification methods.

ABOUT TRANSPORTATIONSECURITY ADMINISTRATION

Since its inception, TSA has worked to carry out the following:

Page 8: YOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK …airportprecheck.org.s3.amazonaws.com/pdf/checklist/precheck/guide.pdfYOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK PROCESS AirportPrecheck.org. ... into

Oversee canine screenings of air cargo.

The addition of full-body scanners to detect non-metallic weapons and explosives.

Enhanced screenings for international travelers with carry-on baggage.

Technology device screenings and pat-downs for alarm resolution.

The ban and lifted ban of liquids, gels and aerosols in carry-ons. Today, passengers can only bring onboard containers of 3.4 ounces or less that are visible through a clear plastic bag.

TSA PreCheck is a convenient service for frequent flyers. With TSA Pre-Check, you are no longer required to wait in long security checkpoint lines. In addition, you do not need to remove personal items from your carry-on, or clothing, shoes and accessories from your body. TSA PreCheck allows you to bypass airport screenings, so you can arrive at your gate quicker and save valuable time.

If you are cleared for eligibility and decide to apply for the TSA PreCheck program, you can treat this airport amenity as a “membership.” If your application is accepted, you will pay a fee. Your TSA PreCheck status will expire within a certain number of years, in which case, you can request renewal, elect a different program or choose not to continue your TSA PreCheck perks.

If you are on the fence about whether or not to invest in TSA PreCheck services, take the time to review the various benefits. Read through our top advantages below:

Account for less time in the airportIf you receive TSA PreCheck status, you can decrease the amount of time you spend in the airport from an average of 25 minutes to an hour, depending on the amount of time it takes to get through the security screening line.

No more long linesIf you are an impatient person by nature, it’s safe to assume you do not like to wait in lines. With TSA PreCheck on your side, you no longer have to wait in lines at security. Instead, with your badge, you are free to cruise through a private entrance and walk straight to your gate.

No need to unpack your carry-on luggageYou read right. With TSA PreCheck, you no longer have to unpack your carry-on or backpack at the security checkpoint. Instead, you can walk right through with your laptop in its case and your liquids in place.

Never get undressed againIn addition to avoiding the unpacking of your personal belongings in bins, you will also be able to walk through security with your belt, your shoes, your jewelry and your jacket in check. You won’t have to think twice about what to wear for your flight before you arrive at the airport, in case it is generally an inconvenience at security.

It’s worth the investmentAs the saying goes, “time is money.” So, if you are a regular flyer, consider purchasing a TSA

membership for an affordable price, and you will gain numerous hours back, and be able to allot more time in your day to do other personal tasks, take care of business and more.

TSA PRE CHECKFOR MILITARY PERSONNEL

If you are a member of the military, you are not automatically eligible for TSA PreCheck. Currently, only the following U.S. service members qualify automatically for TSA PreCheck, with no need to enroll:

- U.S. active military - Members of the National Guard

- Members of the Coast Guard

- Members of the Reserve

If you belong to another body of the military, you will need to check with TSA whether you must enroll entirely for TSA PreCheck, or if you are able to opt-in via the milConnect website. If you choose the latter, follow the instructions to complete the TSA PreCheck registration process.

WHAT ISGLOBAL ENTRY?

Page 30: YOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK …airportprecheck.org.s3.amazonaws.com/pdf/checklist/precheck/guide.pdfYOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK PROCESS AirportPrecheck.org. ... into

Overseen by U.S, Customs and Border Protection, Global Entry is a program that allows for expedited admission into the country, as well as through security checkpoints. Global Entry utilizes a kiosk system in select airports throughout the U.S. to speed up your immigration and customs process while re-entering the country after traveling to an international destination.

In order to be eligible to apply for Global Entry, you must fall under one of the following citizenship categories:

- U.S. citizens

- U.S. lawful permanent residents

- Canadian citizens and residents enrolled in - NEXUS

- Mexican nationals - United Kingdom citizens

- German citizens

- Netherlands citizens

- Panamanian citizens

- South Korean citizens

Once you determine that you are eligible to apply for a Global Entry pass, you can proceed with the application process.

Simply follow the steps below to complete your online Global Entry form:

Step 1Create a Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account to fill out the online paperwork.

Step 2Pay the non-refundable $100 application fee.

Step 3Wait for application approval from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

Step 4Schedule an interview at a Global Entry enrollment center (one appointment per applicant).

Step 5Bring the required documents with you: a valid passport, one additional form of government ID – such as a driver’s license or state ID card – or a permanent resident card if you are a lawful permanent resident.

Step 6Once approved, activate your card via your GOES account online.

Step 7Use your Global Entry card as a supplement for TSA PreCheck when you are departing from a qualified airport or re-entering the United States after international travel.

Global Entry is a beneficial program for the following reasons:

- TSA PreCheck automatic eligibility

- Convenient and available to use in major airports across the U.S.

- No paperwork to fill out

- Reduced wait times

- Entry benefits in other countries

Are you trying to decide between applying for TSA PreCheck versus Global Entry? The main difference between the two is that Global Entry is more suited to international travelers who need to go through Customs and Immigration, while TSA PreCheck is a great program for frequent flyers, both domestically and internationally.

Page 31: YOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK …airportprecheck.org.s3.amazonaws.com/pdf/checklist/precheck/guide.pdfYOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE TSA PRE CHECK PROCESS AirportPrecheck.org. ... into

Because you are automatically qualified for TSA PreCheck if you receive a Global Entry card, there is no need to apply for both programs.

Instead, remember that your Global Entry pass automatically entitles you to the benefits of TSA PreCheck, no questions asked. The only reason to choose a TSA PreCheck card over Global Entry is if you do not travel by plane out of the country.

However, keep in mind that Global Entry affords expedited arrival by land as well as sea.

Note that the Global Entry application costs $100, while the cost to enroll in TSA PreCheck is $85.

CHECKLIST OFPROHIBITED TSA ITEMS

Whether or not you plan to enroll for TSA PreCheck benefits, it is always smart to review the list of prohibited items you cannot have in your carry-on luggage or checked baggage. Keep in mind that the 3-1-1 Liquids Rule is still in effect, and you must abide. Make sure that any liquids you plan to carry on the aircraft are limited to 3.4 ounces each and are stored in a clear bag for easy identification.

Since its inception, TSA has worked to prohibit the following:

Flammable Paints
