Monthly Announcements December 2019 The DC Pulse Your Connection to a Church with a Heart for the Community PASTORS CORNER David Chapel strives to be a “church with a heart for the community” in the context of the Great Commission given by Jesus who charged us to, “ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). Starting the week of February 10-15, 2020 through the week of June 29 – July 4, 2020, we will conduct our weekly congregation-wide adult discipleship Bible studies in separate men and women small groups. These studies will exclude Sunday School but include Wednesday, although we will continue our monthly Wednesday worship after the 1 st Sunday). We will be studying the book, Discipleship: Training from the Master Disciple Maker (J. Carl Laney). The studies are being organized by zip codes or geographical quadrants that will meet offsite, except for those that will meet in our facilities, as we did in 2011. All groups will study the same discipleship materials. Praying over our prayer list will be a part of the small group’s weekly agenda. I expect each session will be about 1-1 ½ hour. With Acts 2:42 in mind, these groups are being called "D-Groups" (discipleship groups) as they help move us more intentionally and strategically into making disciples of our members. The men and women’s ministries will give administrative leadership to the separate adult men/women groups. All David Chapel members are requested to participate in a D-Group. Guests are welcome to join us as well. I have been asked if some studies can be organized by married couples. I am open to that as an option after the first study cycle, if there is interest. If married couples have small group studies, the Marriage Enrichment Ministry will give leadership to those. Any separate youth study groups will come under Rev. Sutton’s leadership. There will be periodic breaks between the study cycles and occasional congregation-wide studies on Wednesday nights. The DC Pulse Your Connection to a Church with a Heart for the Community

PASTOR’S CORNER

David Chapel strives to be a “church with a heart for the community” in the context of the Great Commission given by Jesus who charged us to, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of

the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

These studies will exclude Sunday School but include Wednesday, although we will continue our monthly Wednesday worship after the 1st Sunday).

I have been asked if some studies can be organized by married couples. I am open to that as an option after the first study cycle, if there is interest. If married couples have small group studies, the Marriage Enrichment Ministry will give leadership to those. Any separate youth study groups will come under Rev. Sutton’s leadership.

Winter Break is designed for everyone, and most especially those that

lead and support our church ministries, to take time to refresh

themselves spiritually, physically and emotionally. No weekly meetings

should take place during this period. We will continue to have Sunday School on

Sundays and our gifted Sunday School teachers will prepare their lessons at

home. During this time, Pastor is encouraging each person to give God a full day on

Sunday, including Sunday School.

Regular ministry activities, Wednesday night prayer/praise and Bible Study will

resume on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, with our first Wednesday worship service in

2020.

We will have our congregation-wide 21-day fast from February 1-21, 2020.

Another way to develop your “heart for the community” in 2020 National Missionary Baptist Convention of America “20-2020” Initiative

On September 1, 2019, a catastrophic disaster hit one of our neighboring countries, The Bahamas. Its devastation greatly affected and destroyed 13,000 homes, displaced more than 73,000 residents, caused the loss of life, and demolished the infrastructure of the country.

The five major African American Baptist conventions in America have decided to come together in a collaborative effort to help the people of Bahamas. The total goal is $1,000,000.00. Each convention has been asked to raise $200,000. David Chapel is a member of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America (NMBCA) and has been requested in participating in a “20 for 2020” campaign to help raise our convention’s $200,000 goal. Accordingly, each member of a NMBCA church is being asked to give a $20.00 offering toward this effort. Each church and Pastor is asked to give $200.00.

On Sunday, January 19, 2020, each David Chapel member will be given an opportunity to give his and her individual offering during a special collection. Please prayerfully prepare to share your offering at that time.

DECORATE DC FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON!

Names should be given to Edith McKinney (512-926-9133) or

Ernestine Hill (512-926-0441) by telephone or in person.

Each year, David Chapel members help beautify the sanctuary for Christmas

by bringing poinsettias to honor or memorialize a loved one. If you wish to

participate, please purchase a poinsettia and place it in the sanctuary the

second (Dec. 8), third (Dec. 15), and fourth (Dec. 22) Sundays in December.

The deadline to turn in names is Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

The Women’s Enrichment Ministry, aka DIVAS, enthusiastically took the opportunity to serve and share the gospel with 90 residents of the Falcon Ridge Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, November 9, 2019. The ladies also ministered through prayer and songs. We were well received by the residents who met us in the common area where they eagerly awaited our arrival. A sweet spirit filled the room and we sang several songs as our audience joined in with smiles and clapping to the beat. After singing a few songs, we received requests to sing “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. The DIVAS handed out David Chapel evangelism tracts, packages of socks and ChapStick, which were greatly appreciated. As we sang and ministered, Hoss the dog conducted his own ministry by moving from one client to the next while receiving lots of love from each person. From time to time, stopping to play with his bear. We disbursed into pairs, going down different corridors and moving from room to room, again handing out DC evangelism tracts, packages of socks, and tubes of ChapStick. We had opportunities to pray and share the gospel with the residents who were not able to leave their rooms. When we returned to the common area, we concluded our visit with more singing and praying. Each of us were grateful that we had the opportunity to live out the words of Jesus: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others…”. Matthew 20:28. (NLT) We are all the better for the opportunity to serve and share. Thank you to the David Chapel ladies who attended and to those who helped to support the gifts we shared with the delightful residents!

In advance of the 2020 Census,

the U.S. Census Bureau is

recruiting thousands of people for

temporary jobs across the

country.

The Census Bureau is hiring people for five types of positions to support the 2020 Census — Census Takers, Census Field Supervisors, Recruiting Assistants, Clerk, and Office Operations Supervisor. To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must: • Be at least 18 years old. • Have a valid Social Security number. • Be a U.S. citizen. (Non-citizens may be hired in certain circumstances.) • Have a valid email address. • Complete an application and answer assessment questions. • Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption. • Pass a Census-performed criminal background check. • Commit to completing training. • Be available to work flexible hours. Most jobs require employees to have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, unless public transportation is readily available and access to a computer with internet and an email account (to complete training). If you are employed elsewhere, your current job must be compatible with Census Bureau employment and not create conflicts of interest. These will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Also, you must not engage in any partisan political activity while on duty. The Census Bureau is an equal opportunity employer. For more information, visit our Equal Employment Opportunity page. If you are a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. armed forces and were separated under honorable conditions, you may be eligible for veterans’ preference. Documentation supporting your claim for preference must accompany your application. For more information, visit the U.S. Office of Personnel Management Veterans’ Preference page.

Ready to Apply? If you meet these qualifications, take the next step toward joining our team and apply here! The application process takes about 30 minutes. You will need to provide your Social Security number, home address, email address, phone number, and your date and place of birth.

The Austin Police Department is reminding residents to protect their home from burglars

with the following tips: • Install motion sensor lighting • Ensure bushes are trimmed below the windows • Add stronger screws to door frames so it can’t be

kicked in • Place drilling pins in the windows so they can’t be

lifted

Extra steps like these make the house less desirable for a burglar, which makes it more difficult for a burglar to break in.

In addition, Austin Police Officers who fill the role of district representatives will come to your home and identify what needs to be fixed to make a home more secure. The officer will start on the outside, look for vulnerabilities that would make it easy for someone to break in and move to the inside. Austin Police offer this service all over the city. To find out how to contact your district representative to schedule a security survey, go to the Austin Police Department website.

How to Make Your Home More Secure

To receive credit for tithes and offerings given this year, you

MUST make your donations before midnight, Tuesday,

December 31st, either online or at the church. Contributions

received after midnight will be credited for the next year, 2020.
