Also ordered BT Broadband? If you prefer, we can arrange for an engineer to set up your broadband and/or BT Vision for a small cost.

Just call us on 0800 876 6542 or go to bt.com/homeitinstall

BT Vision is a TV service that uses your broadband line, so please check that your BT Home Hub is ready – its Broadband light should be glowing steady blue (for Hub 2.0 or 3.0), or green if it’s a Hub 1.0 or 1.5.

Then just follow the simple steps in this section. You’ll need about 30 minutes to set up BT Vision.

Don’t worry if your Home Hub looks slightly different from the one shown above, it’ll still work with BT Vision.

Important: do not turn on your Vision+ box until step 7

Do not insert your Sports Viewing Card (if ordered) until after step 8. To find out more about using a Sports Viewing Card, please see page 21

Your Guide to using BT Vision 15

Page 16: YOUR COMPLETE GUIDE - Digital UK YOUR SET-UP GUIDE Your complete guide If your BT Home Hub is close to your Vision+ box you won’t need to use your Powerline adapters (if supplied)

You can operate your TV using your BT Vision remote control. Use it to turn the TV on and off (standby), change channel, adjust the volume and mute the sound.

To set your Vision remote you just need a couple of things:First, find the four-digit unique code for your TV. Some of the most common codes for the most popular TVs are in the table on the right.

However, if your TV make isn’t listed or the code doesn’t work, check the full list available online at bt.com/vision/remotecontrol

Then:Step 1 To set your remote to configuration mode, press and hold the

Vol + and Mute buttons on your remote for about five seconds until the blue light flashes three times.

Step 2 Let go of the buttons and type in the four digit code for your TV.Step 3 If you entered a valid code, the blue light on your remote will

flash three times. If you entered a code incorrectly or used an invalid code, the blue light will flash for one second after you type the last digit of the code.

Step 4 Once you’ve entered a correct code, test the remote by turning the volume up and down and pressing the Mute button. If the buttons don’t work properly, repeat the steps above using another code.

Step 5 To further test your remote, press and hold the Mode button while trying the Channel +/- buttons and the On/Off buttons.

Step 6 If the TV doesn’t react, start again from Step 1 with the next code.

TV Make Code 1 Code 2 Code 3

Goodmans 0000 0011 0016Hitachi 0018 0020 0000JVC 0016 0058 0011LG 0017 0000 0019Panasonic 0005 0000 0110Philips 0000 0033 0001Samsung 0002 0003 0000Sharp 0014 0016 0102Sony 0001 0084 0126Toshiba 0077 0043 0056

If your BT Vision remote control now operates your TV correctly, that’s it. It’s configured and you don’t need to do any of this again. Plus, you don’t need to repeat this process when you change your remote’s batteries, as the code will be stored in its memory

My BT Vision service isn’t working. What should I do?

Make sure:

• All the cables that you plugged in during set-up are firmly in place

• Double-check your SCART cables are fully pushed in

• Check your Vision+ box and TV are turned on

• Check your broadband is working and that the Home Hub broadband light is glowing

Freeview channels are delivered through your aerial, and the On Demand programmes need a working broadband connection.

Freeview and Sports channelsHelp with Freeview1 Availability of Freeview channels depends on where you live. To check

which Freeview channels you should be able to receive in your area, go to digitaluk.co.uk

2 90% of Freeview related problems relate to the quality of your aerial or wiring:• You need to ensure that you have a good quality external or loft aerial capable

of receiving a digital Freeview signal which is pointing in the right direction

• This should not be a communal/shared aerial

• A TV set-top aerial is unlikely to be good enough, even with a booster

3 Local Geography – tall trees, hills, or buildings in direct line with your local transmitter may impact signal strength

4 Weather – low pressure or windy conditions can affect Freeview signal in strong signal areas especially if the aerial is not securely mounted. The weather can disrupt picture quality, cause pixilation and/or picture freezes. It may even cause missing channels

5 Transmitter changes and the Digital Switchover can result in changes to channel line-ups and availability

6 Wiring - make sure you’re using good quality cables – these are vital to ensure the signal from the aerial reaches your Vision+ box with minimum picture loss and interference

If you‘ve moved home you may not receive the same channels you did before as signal strength and channel availability varies by location.

Common Freeview fixesMany common problems with Freeview can be solved by working through the steps below. These include issues like missing some or all Freeview channels and poor sound and picture quality:1 Make sure all the cables that you plugged in during set-up are firmly

in place2 Double-check your SCART or HDMI cables are fully pushed in

and that you’re using good quality cables (especially cables to your aerial)3 Check your Vision+ box and TV are turned on4 Check your broadband is working and that the Home Hub broadband light is

glowing solid blue (or green for Hub 1.0 or 1.5) 5 Complete a channel scan by pressing the BT Vision button, then

go to Settings> TV Settings > Add Channels to TV Guide, and then Scan for Channels

6 Check aerial is properly in place and pointing in the same direction as your neighbours

Distorted sound and picture of Freeview channels: • If you are still having issues with Freeview after following the steps in

Common Freeview fixes, try checking your signal strength. Press the BT Vision button on your remote, then go to Settings > TV Settings > then DTT signal strength

• Signal strength that is too high can also affect picture and sound quality. In this case an attenuator may help (see ‘Still need help?’ section on page 28. The Digital switchover could also boost your signal which may cause reception problems. For updates on when Digital switchover is happening in your area, visit: digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch

Channels frequently appear and disappear from the channel list• If you find that channels you watch frequently appear and disappear, you

may live in an area that has variable Freeview quality• Your BT Vision+ box automatically picks up changes to the Freeview

channel line-up, so once you have performed a channel scan that lists the channels that you watch, you should consider turning off the Automatic Freeview Channel Update feature

• To turn off this feature, go to your BT Vision Menu > Settings > TV Settings > Automatic Freeview Channel Update, and then select Automatic Freeview Channel Update Off

• If you turn channel updating off, you’ll still be asked to do a manual channel scan when your BT Vision+ box detects any changes

I don’t have any sound: • Check all your cables are firmly in place• Reboot Vision+ box by holding down the Power button on the front of the

box until it turns red. Then press the Power button to restart the box.• Check the volume on your TV is not muted• Try another channel to see if sound is missing from all channels• Try watching an On Demand trailer to see if the sound is working

Leave the On Demand section by pressing Back on the Vision+ box remote control. Re-enter the On Demand section. This makes the Vision+ box retrieve the information from the BT Vision platform. Try this several times.

• If you are still having problems try rebooting your equipment

• Turn off the power to the Home Hub (or disconnect the power supply)

• Switch off the socket that the Vision+ box power cord is connected to

• Wait for ten seconds and then reconnect power to the Home Hub

• Allow up to two minutes for the Home Hub to reboot and reconnect. A solid broadband Internet light will come on if the reboot and reconnection have been successful

• Switch on the socket that the Vision+ box power cord is connected to.

• The ‘Starting Please Wait’ screen should appear. Shortly afterwards the Vision service should be active

For more information on error codes go to bt.com/help/errorcodes

I get a V04 error when watching On Demand

If you are connecting via an Ethernet cable follow these steps:

1 Ensure the Ethernet cable is connected securely into the Vision+ box ‘LAN’ port on the back of the Vision+ box (see fig. 1) - it’s worthwhile pulling the cable out then pushing it back in to hear the ‘click’ as the cable fits. Ensure the other end of the cable is connected securely into the Home Hub ‘Ethernet 1’ port (see fig. 2).

2 If after doing this you still can’t watch your On Demand programme, try rebooting your equipment following the steps shown in the ‘Currently unavailable’ FAQ opposite.

If you have ordered Vision and Broadband at the same time your line speed may take 10 days to settle. Some customers may experience problems viewing Video on demand during this period. This should not last longer than the first 10 days

Help setting up BT VisionDo I have to use my Powerline adapters? No – if your BT Home Hub and Vision+ box are in the same room and within two metres of each other Yes – if your BT Home Hub and Vision+ box are in different rooms. If you didn’t order Powerline adapters with your kit and are within 30 days of ordering your BT Vision service please call 0800 111 4567

Can I use an extension lead with a Powerline adapter?Yes, you can. We recommend that you plug your Powerline adapter into a wall socket and then plug any extension lead you’re using into the Powerline adapter. This is because Powerline adapters won’t necessarily work when plugged directly into extension leads that have surge protection on them.

Other common questionsPower-saving modesYour Vision+ box has a couple of features to reduce energy consumption. These are: • When it goes on standby, its hard disk stops spinning after a minute (unless it’s recording) • If you’ve left your Vision+ box on and aren’t using it, it goes on standby after eight hours

The Power light on the front of your Vision+ box indicates the current power-saving mode:

Power light Power saving mode

Blue Full power

On and operating, eg: recording

Purple Active Standby

On standby but recordings and software update will still take place. Put your Vision+ box into standby by pressing the On/Off button on the remote control or a short press of the On/Off button on the front of your Vision+ box. Press either On/Off to switch the unit back on to full power – it takes the Vision+ box a few seconds to respond.

Red Low power/Off mode

Your Vision+ box is effectively off, recordings will not take place. To use low-power mode, press and hold the On/Off button on the front of your Vision+ box until the Power light flashes red. To turn it on again, use the On/Off button on your Vision+ box (the remote control is inoperative in this mode). When you press the button, your Vision+ box will take a few seconds to begin starting up and will be ready when the Power light is solid blue (this can take about a minute).

Better Business Better Future Did you know?Your Vision+ box has been re-designed to use 30 per cent less energy.

That’s good for your wallet and means we all use less natural resources. But that’s not all, we’re working hard for all our other products to be inclusive, more energy efficient and to use less materials. For example, our BT home phones use more efficient plugs designed to run on half the electricity. As a company, we’ve also been working to reduce our environmental impact.

We were one of the first UK firms to actively curb CO2 emissions and we’re committed to reducing our carbon intensity by 80 per cent in 2020. We’ve achieved a 43 per cent reduction so far by becoming more energy efficient and increasing our use of renewable energy.

We’d be delighted to tell you more. Just go tobt.com/sustainabilitybt.com/inclusion
