WELLINGTON Wellington is New Zealand's capital city, the seat of our government, and a great place to live. It is compact and set between a magnificent harbour and green hills, where shops, exciting galleries and great restaurants are all within walking distance. Nearly all of Wellington's residents live within 3km of the sea and there are also beautiful beaches, mountain biking, walking tracks and a wildlife sanctuary.
PALMERSTON NORTHPalmerston North, in the Manawatū region, is a hub of agricultural development and research. It is compact, friendly and accessible. It is a young person's city with a third of its population aged 15 to 30 years old. It offers affordable accommodation, plentiful cafés and restaurants, a multiplex cinema, live theatre and music, indoor/outdoor swimming pools, shopping, an airport and much more.
AUCKLANDAuckland is an international city of 1.4 million people. Built around a stunning harbour, it has world-class facilities and a diverse multi-cultural population. The Auckland campus is on the North Shore, which has over 30 sandy swimming beaches. It is just a short drive from the city lights of central Auckland, yet has a real community feel and beachside character. Within walking distance of the campus you’ll find plenty of cafés, a large shopping centre, cinema complex and sporting facilities.

AUCKLAND INNOVATION CAMPUS Our Auckland campus in Albany provides access to our long history of expertise in research and teaching, while enjoying state-of-the-art academic and recreational facilities. ACADEMIC PROFILE n DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR HARJINDER SINGH Massey Institute of Food Science and Technology, College of Health Harjinder leads the world of food innovation to solve the big food, health and nutrition challenges facing the globe. Recognised with numerous national and international awards for his work, the world-renowned authority drives the Massey Institute of Food Science and Technology. He offers innovative teaching programmes combined with world-class research opportunities and facilities to create nutritious foods for the future, food and nutrition security, food safety and food innovation. Food science is one of the most exciting fields to work in, tackling challenges from sustainability through to obesity.
ACADEMIC PROFILE n ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR JANE GOODYER School of Engineering and Advanced Technology Associate Professor Jane Goodyer is an expert in manufacturing systems design, specifically helping organisations improve their productivity. She has worked with the UK’s aerospace, automotive and New Zealand’s primary industry sectors. Her skill base has also extended to cofounding the UNESCO University Network on humanitarian engineering that involves collaborators from Europe and Africa.

n PROFESSOR HARALD VAN HEERDE Research Professor, Massey Business School Professor Harald van Heerde is considered one of the world’s leading marketing scientists. Originally from the Netherlands, he earned his PhD in Economics at the University of Groningen. He has been placed 11th equal in the world for marketing research by the American Marketing Association (AMA). In his research, Harald uses econometric models to improve marketing decision making. His expertise includes the measurement of advertising, price and sales promotion effects, loyalty programmes, marketing mix strategies to build brands, and retail assortment optimisation.

> National Expedition and Internship - Massey offers a customised study abroad experience that takes place over the Northern Hemisphere summer. This programme combines a two week national expedition and a four week internship in a local business or organisation.

> Pre-degree (including Certificate of Foundation Studies): Academic IELTS 5.5 (no band less than 5.0), or TOEFL iBT 70 (internet) with writing score of 18, PTE Academic 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills).
> Undergraduate (including Graduate Diplomas): Academic IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 5.5), TWE 4.0, or TOEFL iBT 80 (internet), with writing score of 19, PTE Academic 50 Overall (min 42 in communicative skills).
> Postgraduate (including PhD): Academic IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0), TWE 4.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 (internet) with writing score of 20, PTE Academic 58 Overall (min 50 in communicative skills).
Please note: IELTS is not required for students achieving University Entrance via New Zealand’s National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA).
UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE (UE)From 1 March 2014, to be awarded University Entrance (UE) you will need:
> NCEA Level 3 > Three subjects - at Level 3, made up of 14 credits each, in three
approved subjects > Literacy: 10 credits at Level 2 or above made up of 5 credits in reading
and 5 credits in writing > Numeracy: 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of specified
achievement standards or a package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627- all three required).
Fourteen level 3 credits in the NZIM Certificate in Management or the NZIM Certificate in Small Business Management, or a completed Young Enterprise Certificate (YES) may be able to be used toward meeting the NCEA Level 3 entrance standard. ACADEMIC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES > For most undergraduate level programmes, the minimum academic
entry requirement is successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance. International students need to check the equivalency of their secondary school qualification by reviewing the list of Academic Admission Requirements by Country (see page 25 onwards).

> International students who have completed three x B at level 5 or six passes in the New Zealand Diploma of Business may apply for entry into a Bachelor's programme providing the following:
> An NZQA transcript as formal evidence of the NZDipBus results is required before credit will be assessed and only courses with a minimum grade of B will be assessed for credit.
> The English language requirements can be met by: 1. A minimum IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) used to gain entry to

Graduate DiplomasAdmission to a Graduate Diploma requires successful completion of a three year diploma or undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution.

International Baccalaureate (IB): full diploma with a minimum 24 points.Cambridge International Examination (CIE), if completed in New Zealand: a minimum of 120 points on the UCAS tariff and a minimum D grade in each of at least three subjects. Fiji Fiji School Leaving Certificate 65% in four academic subjects. Fiji Form 7 Certificate: aggregate over four subjects of 250 marks out of 400, with a minimum of 50 in English, or USP foundation year in either science or social sciences with a grade average of B and no grade lower than C in the eight required courses.
Germany Mittlere Reife / Realschulabschluss. Successful completion of Senior High School (Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife - Arbitur).
Hong Kong HK Certificate of Education, minimum 2C and 2D grades or equivalent. OrHKDSE, five subjects comprising of three academic subjects and two electives, two out of the five subjects must be at level 2 or higher.
Hong Kong Advanced Level passes in three academic subjects with one grade C or higher; orThe Hong Kong Diploma in Secondary Education with at least three subjects achieved at Level 4 or better, including English language and two elective subjects.

Either: (a) completion of a High School Diploma with a B average; or (b) one year of successful study at a Japanese university; or (c) completion of a junior college diploma of two or three years’ duration.
Latin America Successful completion of one year’s tertiary study at a recognised institution.
Malaysia SPM: Grade 4 average in five subjects, or, UEC: Grade 6 average over five subjects.
STPM 3 principal passes, or UEC with a maximum of 18 points over six academic subjects, or GCE A levels with at least three results with one grade at Level C or above, or SAM (or equivalent) with a minimum tertiary entrance rank of 74.

Bachelor’s Degree Normally a minimum of three years full-time study.
Conjoint DegreeTwo undergraduate degrees completed simultaneously by passing a reduced number of credits in each.
CreditsEvery programme has a credit value and every course within a programme also has a credit value. For example, a typical undergraduate degree is worth 360 credits and a typical undergraduate course is worth 15 credits.
GraduateA student who has completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Graduate DiplomaA qualification open to graduates or to those who have been able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
Honours DegreeA Postgraduate qualification equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma. Entry to an Honours programme requires prior high academic performance.
Level of courseTypical undergraduate degrees consist of 100, 200 and 300-level courses. 100-level courses are taught in the first year, 200-level courses in second year and 300-level courses may be studied once 200-level courses are successfully completed. Postgraduate courses are taught at 700, 800 and 900-levels.
MajorA substantial component of an undergraduate degree (at least a quarter of all the courses in the degree).
Master’s DegreeA postgraduate degree that normally builds on the area of study within a qualifying undergraduate degree.
MinorA combination of courses in an undergraduate degree that is smaller than a major.
CourseA module of work with a unique code number involving lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practicals. A typical undergraduate degree, studied full-time, would consist of 8 courses per year, with 4 in each semester.
Course CodeEach course has a six-figure code to identify it. For example, in course 150.214 the ‘150’ denotes Māori Studies, the ‘2’ shows it is a 200-level course and the final two digits ‘14’ identify the course.
Postgraduate DiplomaA qualification that builds on attainment in the prior degree, open to graduates or those with equivalent experience.
SemesterMassey University has two semesters each year (Semester 1 and Semester 2). Each normally involves 13 weeks of teaching followed by exams. There is also a summer semester known as Summer School.
UndergraduateA student studying at university who has not yet graduated.
