OCTOBER NEWS P AGE 2
“As you can see, we have been exploring various fields of employment...we can be doctors, fire-
fighters, police officers, chefs, performers, authors, photographers...We really have a lot of fun
learning about the professionals in our community—their roles and responsibilities. Just like all the
other students at school, we had an opportunity to prepare a resume to show off our skills. Our
moms and dads got a chance to see our resumes at open house...Well, it’s time to get back to
work...there is so much more planned for us to do…like what does a flower need to survive...like
what do I need to be healthy and thriving...see you at Octoberfest!

HISD will be launching a new and improved version of The Source this fall, giving parents and students se-cure online access to valuable information about a stu-dent and his or her classes. Called Parent Student Connect (PSC), the new service will allow registered users (i.e., parents and students) to log in to view a student's grades, assignments, progress reports, atten-dance records, achievement test scores, report cards, and more. Please note, printed report cards will still be mailed to students' homes. Users can also set up "triggers" that send an e-mail or text message if a child's grades drop below a selected average or a stu-dent is absent or tardy to class. Parent Student Con-nect will be launched on Monday, September 28, 2009. Access and registration will be through the Parents &

Our 8th Graders will have an opportunity to travel to our nation’s capital... in May to trace the steps of our country’s founders and present-day policymakers. The student’s will get an opportunity to enjoy each others company away from the traditional school set-ting as well as become im-mersed in an educational activity.
A planning committee has been formed to organize the myriad of details which need attention. The com-mittee will address commu-nication, finances, trans-portation, security, supervi-sion, sightseeing, meals and common activities.
We are excited about this opportunity for our stu-dents...more details to come.
Our 4th, 5th and 7th Grad-ers will travel to Austin and San Antonio to trace im-portant steps of our begin-nings. We are going to need volunteers for plan-ning and travel. If you are interested in either, please inform your child’s teacher. More information to come!

SCHOOLWORKS…Student Payroll...How much has your
child earned thus far…?
SCHOOLWORKS, is proud to
report that Mrs. Markeita Wil-liams’ class for the week of September 21, 2009 grossed a payroll of $1400. This means that almost all students in her class have successfully applied for a job, interviewed for the job and received a job based on several factors. If a student has not received employment with
SCHOOLWORKS it is due the
student not completing one of the following: Employment Ap-plication, Student Contract, or Resume. This means your child is still listed as a volunteer with
SCHOOLWORKS. Remember
parents, SCHOOLWORKS will
reward children will a cash pay-out for the most money earned. Also, a laptop will be awarded to the top earner. Ask your child, “How much have you
earned thus far?”
Note—a student’s pay is docked for absences, tardies, and time spent in the Princi-pal’s Office for Rule Viola-tions... Please ensure your child arrives on time—”children learn what they live…”
COMING THIS OCTOBER
