The Beginning
Established in 2012.
Cohort of 7 young people per year – 1 from each
of the secondary schools in Rushcliffe. The aim
was to ‘develop and deliver’.
Dedicated information, careers advice and guid-
ance designed for young people by young people.
Website launched in 2014.

Making a Difference
YouNG is a project designed to help give young people the expe-
riences they need in order to develop their skills for the world of
work. The future is always uncertain and often confusing but
there will be 47,000 new jobs and nearly half a million job open-
ings (replacement) between 2012-2022 and we need to raise
confidence, aspiration and readiness.
Primarily we need to facilitate work experience opportunities
with local businesses alongside developing entrepreneurial en-
terprise e.g. running YouNG markets. We also need to build and
provide ongoing support to schools and the D2N2 area and
SMEIs to help them to deliver a range of career and enterprise
related opportunities.
To further demonstrate the commitment of the programme to
giving young people a chance to grow and develop their skills,
currently the entire team is comprised of young people aged 14-
22. We currently employ two university interns, one apprentice
from a local college and seven year 10 students from the local
schools to deliver the aims of the project.

The Future
To be successful a Community Interest Company or so-
cial enterprise is required to develop the:

increasing demands of YouNG
Continued development of the innovative and
technological YouNG social media platform
Content, opportunity and presence of YouNG as a
company supporting schools and small and
medium sized businesses.

YouNG Markets
YouNG markets are large events where young people are invited
to test their entrepreneurial skills and see if they can handle run-
ning a market stall. The markets also include live music and per-
formances, again from young people. The next market date is
Saturday, 2 July 2016.

A complex problem requires enthusiastic and knowledgeable
people to come together to simplify and deliver a solution. We
believe we need the support and involvement of entrepreneurs,
educationalists and community leaders to come together to in-
vest in and create a brighter future for our young generation,
facilitated through developing YouNG as a Community Interest
Company to oversee and develop the current elements, includ-
ing:

Crowd Thinking
YouNG Ambassadors: one student from each of the seven Rush-
cliffe schools is employed each year to work for YouNG. These
Ambassadors maintain links with the school and help direct
young people towards the benefits of YouNG.
Work Experience: YouNG collaborates with local businesses to
facilitate work experience opportunities to enable young people
to develop their skills and gain the experience needed to pro-
gress their careers.
Enterprise Coordinator: The Enterprise Coordinators role is to
identify a volunteer business person who can support a school to
develop their careers and enterprise offer, as well as strengthen
their link with businesses.
European Funding: YouNG has secured funding form Erasmus+
which is a European Union student exchange programme, which
combines all the EU's current schemes for education, training,
