What are our Goals?

Desire Excellence for the Church 1 Corinthians 14:1-3 NKJV (1) Pursue

love, and desire spiritual gifts, but

especially that you may prophesy. (2)

For he who speaks in a tongue does not

speak to men but to God, for no one

understands him; however, in the spirit

he speaks mysteries. (3) But he who

prophesies speaks edification and

exhortation and comfort to men.

Desire Excellence for the Church 1 Corinthians 12:28 NKJV (28) And

God has appointed these in the church:

first apostles, second prophets, third

teachers, after that miracles, then gifts

of healings, helps, administrations,

varieties of tongues.

Mark 16:20 NKJV And they went out and

preached everywhere, the Lord working

with them and confirming the word through

the accompanying signs. Amen.

Purpose of Miracles


Hebrews 2:2-4 NKJV For if the word spoken through

angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and

disobedience received a just reward, (3) how shall

we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at

the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was

confirmed to us by those who heard Him, (4) God

also bearing witness both with signs and wonders,

with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit,

according to His own will?

Purpose of Miracles


1 Corinthians 14:4-5 NKJV (4) He who speaks in a

tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies

the church. (5) I wish you all spoke with tongues,

but even more that you prophesied; for he who

prophesies is greater than he who speaks with

tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church

may receive edification.

Better to Build Up


Ephesians 4:11-16 ESV And he gave the apostles,

the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and

teachers, (12) to equip the saints for the work of

ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (13)

until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the

knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,

to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,

Desire Excellence for the Church Ephesians 4:11-16 continued (14) so that we may no

longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves

and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by

human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

(15) Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to

grow up in every way into him who is the head, into

Christ, (16) from whom the whole body, joined and

held together by every joint with which it is

equipped, when each part is working properly, makes

the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Worship with the Spirit & Understanding

1 Corinthians 14:15-17 ESV (15) What am I

to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray

with my mind also; I will sing praise with my

spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. (16)

Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit,

how can anyone in the position of an outsider

say "Amen" to your thanksgiving when he

does not know what you are saying? (17) For

you may be giving thanks well enough, but the

other person is not being built up.


John 4:23-24 NKJV But the hour is coming,

and now is, when the true worshipers will

worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the

Father is seeking such to worship Him. (24)

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him

must worship in spirit and truth.”















Ephesians 5:19 NKJV speaking to one another in

psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and

making melody in your heart to the Lord,


1 Corinthians 14:12 NKJV (12) Even so you,

since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be

for the edification of the church that you seek

to excel.

1 Corinthians 14:19 NKJV (19) yet in the church I would

rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach

others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

It’s time to Grow Up

1 Corinthians 14:20-21 NKJV (20) Brethren,

do not be children in understanding; however,

in malice be babes, but in understanding be

mature. (21) In the law it is written: "WITH

MEN OF OTHER TONGUES AND OTHER

LIPS I WILL SPEAK TO THIS PEOPLE;

AND YET, FOR ALL THAT, THEY WILL

NOT HEAR ME," says the Lord.



1 Corinthians 14:23-25 NKJV (23) Therefore if the whole church

comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there

come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say

that you are out of your mind? (24) But if all prophesy, and an

unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by

all, he is convicted by all. (25) And thus the secrets of his heart

are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God

and report that God is truly among you.



1 Corinthians 14:26 NKJV (26)

How is it then, brethren? Whenever

you come together, each of you has

a psalm, has a teaching, has a

tongue, has a revelation, has an

interpretation. Let all things be

done for edification.

Ephesians 2:19-22 NKJV Now, therefore, you are no

longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with

the saints and members of the household of God, (20)

having been built on the foundation of the apostles and

prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief

cornerstone, (21) in whom the whole building, being

fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,

(22) in whom you also are being built together for a

dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
