Geoinformatic surveillance for spatial and temporal hotspot detection and

prioritization is a critical need for the 21st Century. A declared need is around for

statistical geoinformatics and software infrastructure for spatial and spatio-temporal

hotspot detection, prioritization, early warning, and sustainable management.

JalaSRI is attempting to be a unique, district level and innovative

multidisciplinary research institute, contributing significantly to the surveillance and

research activities for additional water, natural resources monitoring and

management, for the Jalgaon district in particular.

JalaSRI efforts are driven by a wide variety of case studies of interest to agencies,

academia, and private sector involving critical societal issues, such as public health,

ecosystem health, financial health, biodiversity and threats to biodiversity, emerging

infectious diseases, water management and conservation, persistent poverty,

environmental justice, sustainable livelihood, sensor networks, energy conservation,

early warning, and disaster management. It involves research of space- time diseases,

poverty, pollution, early detection, early warning, hotspot trajectories and trends. To

strengthen this unique research initiative, we look forward to the scientific

cooperation, participation, exchange and collaboration with different research

organizations, institutes, government departments, agencies and NGOs, leading to

the sustained use and management of natural resources for the society. In this context

fund raising activity also plays an important role.

JalaSRI requests everyone interested for their support and involvement to

effectively carry out scientific and social work for the betterment of the society. To

serve the society around through scientific and innovative approach in this

JalaSRI was established in the year 2006 and is a exclusive research wing of Khandesh College Education Society (KCE Society), Jalgaon, Maharashtra State, Pin- 425002

Our parent society, Khandesh College Education Society (KCE Society) was established in the year 1944 (Visit: www.kces.in) and has emerged as a leading academic movement in the North Maharashtra. Mr. N. G. Bendale, M.Sc (Agriculture) with gold medal and distinction, is the President of Khandesh College Education (KCE) Society, Jalgaon (Maharashtra, India), which runs many leading institutions of Higher learning ranging from liberal arts to advanced science, technology and management streams spreading light of education in the North Maharashtra region. Also, he headed strategic positions like: a Senate Member of North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon; Vice-chairman of Indo-American Cardiovascular Centre, Jalgaon; Director of Akola Janata Commercial Cooperative Bank; Chairman of JalaSRI Board of Directors, and Proprietor of Heramb Poly-pack. Being an agriculturist, he has spent a considerable time of his career in promoting advanced and improved agricultural techniques in this region. With his rich experience of 35 years in the field of innovative agriculture and development of the network of educational institutions, he has lead the people in combating battle with water, poverty, hunger and illiteracy and ameliorating hardship for grass root society in Jalgaon district. He establishes and communicates a vision of learning excellence, organizes and manages all aspects of institutional life in a variety of ways, provides leadership and support to all staff and students. He is an excellent role model, sensitive to the individual needs and differences of his team members. All in all he is a team player with vision and has the ability to manage change and the leadership to take the institution and the community forward.

Our country is full of natural resources but we are unable to use it judicially. Impact of climate change is very obvious but we can mitigate it by preparing the community and our agricultural practices. We very well know that the under-trained people cannot be asset for any country. As such skill enhancement is our priority and focused area. If we can manage our resources natural, human, financial, physical and integrate them strategically, we can win the situation. We are extending our arms to reach more people with a very novel objective of offering them a happy life. We dream for a water, agriculture and livelihood sustainable village and to fulfill this dream we execute the program with a blend of science, technology, good governance and above all human touch with keeping community at pivot position. Our Mandate:JalaSRI is mandated to undertake, carry out, promote, execute and sponsor projects and programmes of rural and/or urban development including programmes for promoting socioeconomic and ecological betterment of the community and ecosystem and overall to provide quality l ife to community/beneficiary. To achieve the target JalaSRI may work in following sectors: • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT• Agriculture and its supportive activities with Latest and Eco friendly Technology: To organize, promote, develop, improve, support, implement and maintain all types and methods of agriculture, farming, horticulture, social forestry, soil conservation, waste land development, through latest scientific technology and carry out all other support activities leads to productivity enhancement. AS IMPLEMENTING AGENCY • Model Watershed Development Project at Jalgaon District in collaboration with ICRISAT, Hyderabad. (Covering 1000 ha area, 2 villages, 2500 households and total project cost was INR 1.2 Cr.). It was a unique project in which community was at centre and all the planning and execution done by community under the monitoring of JalaSRI.• International Collaborative Project successfully completed with CINSA, Parma University – Italy on “Defending Biodiversity and Promoting Sustainable Agriculture”. It was biodiversity Conservation plan for Jalgaon District and prototype for increase in the water use efficiency and yield productivity through better land configurations. It will help in protection and rejuvenation of biodiversity hotspots. • The “National Carbon Vegetation Pool Assessment Project” by Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun funded by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was carried out in the 5 districts viz; Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Buldhana and Akola from North Maharashtra Region by JalaSRI. Main objective of this project was to do the analysis of vegetation and biomass for Forest and Trees outside forest areas. This will help to estimate and analyze the forest and vegetation status in the region. This methodology is replicable anywhere for the assessment of the vegetation status of that area. • MoU with BARC, Mumbai for “Advanced Knowledge for Rural Technologies Implementation” (AKRUTI) Centre. We have developed solar dryer, domestic low cost no energy drinking water purifier; soil organic carbon detection kit and establishment of tissue culture lab which is producing banana saplings and it is available to farmer at very low rate. In totality it is a rural livelihood improvement program which will generate many livelihood options in rural area using technologies. Till date 150 farmers cultivating these saplings developed in tissue culture

AKRUTI Centre is functional since January 2015.• Development of “ Centre for Skill Development” (CSD) for vocational skill development in the areas of Agriculture, Soil-Water Conservation, Renewable Energy and Biotechnology. More than 70 trainees are under vocational skill development program of green house and poly house technology.• DST funded “EcoWaSH” Programme in Jalgaon District for water use and agricultural practices.• Empanelment by District Collector, Jalgaon for Evaluation of ambitious “Jalayukta Shivar” scheme of MS Government.

AS RESEARCH INSTITUTE • Organized 8 international workshops on Hotspot Geoinformatics for monitoring, etiology, early warning and sustainable management and 23 satellite workshops for capacity building with financial support from US NSF. In which, 50 eminent scientists from different countries and 50 from India have participated. • Participations and publications of over 11 JalaSRI case studies in 9 conferences on international platforms with financial support from US NSF. • Networking with over 50 highly acclaimed international and national scientists for sharing the experience and knowledge based on NRM and Geoinformatics. • National Conference on “Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS for NRM”. As a Skill Development Agency • MoU with neighboring colleges for conduction of Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) Degree Programmes as industry partner. This program is scheduled as skill development program for youth.• MoU with “Agriculture Skill Council of India” (ASCI) for skill development, training of the trainers, skill assessment, labor management information system development, NOS development etc.• Affiliation with Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board

AS A CONSULTANCY AGENCY • First of its kind “ City Sanitation Plan “ developed by JalaSRI for Local Urban Bodies (LCBs) in India which inclusive of waste solid and water management leading to the better hygiene and health of the community, covering 105 sq.km area and 4.65 lacs population. The project cost was INR 1200 Cr. The plan was submitted to Central Government. • Delivery of expert lectures on “Remote Sensing, GIS, Geoinformatics, Geography, Geology, Tissue Culture, Biofertilizers, Polyhouse assisted cultivations, Greenhouse Technology, Software Engineering, Soil water conservation” in different academic institutes.
