ATTITUDE – Quotes 11
Advt 12-18
Dear Readers
Charles Swindoll wrote:The longer I live, the more I realise the impact of attitude on life.It is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than whatever anyone might say or do.It is more important than appearances, giftedness or skill. The remarkable thing is that we have the choice to create the attitude we have for that day.We cannot change our past. We cannot change the way people act. We cannot change the inevitable. The one thing we can change is the only thing we have control over, and that is our attitude.I am convinced that life is 10% what actually happens to us and 90% how we react to it.Time to introspect.ATTITUDE MATTERS.whY not!
ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE POWERFULWe are more important than any label. We are not our professions. What we are is far greater, far superior, far more important, and far more mysterious than our conceptual mind tries to define. This is why we are far
more powerful than we think we are.
A
TOLERATE TRIVIALITIESStop fussing over trivial matters and start focusing on what’s really important to you.Don’t go through life expecting things to change. Life becomes hard and unfair when we decide to complain about things rather than trying to change them ourselves.
T
TAKE CHARGEWe all have problems, and we’re often tested by circumstances outside of our control. Even though you may not be in control of what’s going on outside of you, you most definitely can control your reaction to those situations.

INVEST IN SELFNobody knows you better than you do. Stop identifying with other people’s opinions and become aware of how you see yourself. Always believe that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. God has not made another copy after making you. Thrive! Strive!
I
TRUST, YOU HAVE ENOUGHIf you focus on what you have, and not on what you lack, you will always have enough, because you will always be enough. Endless comparisons can drive you crazy. You are much better off than most of the people. Be grateful. Wear your attitude of gratitude.
T
UNDERSTAND AND ENHANCE THE LOVE FOR YOURSELFYou have arrived. Everything you need is right here. Cut out the distractions, open your eyes, and see that you already have everything in your possession to be happy, loved, and fulfilled.Be yourself. Love yourself completely and accept everything that you are. You are beautiful. Believe it, and most importantly, remind yourself often.

DISPLAY CONTROL OVER YOUR EMOTIONSWe get uptight with other peoples’ actions, and in the end we punish ourselves for their bad behaviour, e.g., when someone breaks traffic rules in front of us. We end up losing control over our own actions because of the way other people act. But we are responsible for our own action, regardless of how rude other people may act. If it’s hard to stay cool, remember: you are the one who loses in the end, if you lose the lesson.
D
ENJOY THE JOURNEYBe content with where you are today and don’t make the mistake of putting off being happy because you are waiting for the right moment to shine. Sometimes it takes a conscious effort to enjoy the journey.
Not everyone woke up this morning and not everyone will go to bed tonight. Life has no guarantees. Every minute you are living is a blessing that has to be experienced in the moment. It’s not always easy, but it’s always an option—a choice. Your choice.

Attitude is about your state ofmind. Attitude is governed by theobjects that we encounter in ourdaily life. Winning is an attitude. How winners learn and managetheir attitude? Winners recognisethe difference between a dreamand reality; they exhibit a healthybalance between creating a planand acting on it; they basedecisions on priorities.
Winners take planned actions;they break major undertakingsinto small, digestible bites; theyview obstacles as challenges thatcan be successfully navigated;they view every small win as astepping-stone to somethingbigger and better, and they arehumbled by every win, knowingthat one win doesn’t constitute awinning streak.

In the current turbulent environment, theyknow that everything is subject to changeexcept their core values and principles.Winners take pride in what they do and arepassionate about life, they know that areputation is earned and must be carefullynurtured; winners take pride in learningsomething new every day; they surroundthemselves with the best and brightest peopleand foster win-win relationships with them;winners know the importance of celebratingsmall wins during the marathon of life, andthey befriend special people who provideencouragement and with whom they can sharesuccess along the way.
Winners aren’t always the smartest. They don’talways have the greatest experience. Theyaren’t always the best at what they do. But youcan be sure that they’re acquainted withfailure, but not deterred by it.
Overall, they are absolutely unwilling to acceptfailure as an option. They’re passionate. Theyare hardworking. They are trustworthy. Theyare focused. And, they are committed. Winnersare on a mission! Nothing is going to stand intheir way. You can see success in their eyes. They can feel it in their bones. They exert a raresense of optimism that’s contagious.
To conclude for achieving happiness, betterhealth, stronger relationships, and continuedsuccess, you may not have to look any furtherthan the mirror. The happiest people don’tnecessarily have the best of everything; theyjust make the best of everything they have. Infact, true happiness may depend on how youview the world and who you look to forinspiration. It pays to be positive.

I don’t know who said it but he said it right,“It’s your attitude, not your aptitude thatdefines your altitude.” You do not have tobe a page 3 or page 6 person to show yourattitude. It’s always there and eager to comeout at the slightest opportunity. Check thedictionary and it would suggest that“attitude is way of regarding things;disposition or reaction (to person or thing)or posture of body.” The meaning does notrecommend right attitude or wrongattitude. Attitude is attitude. Even if you donot like wearing a designer dress made outof a handkerchief size fabric, even if you donot like posing for pictures in wine or cigartasting parties, you still can show a lot ofattitude at the various altitudes of corporatehierarchy. What is needed is just a bit ofaptitude that can be honed up with someefforts of practice.People with attitude get noticed easily. Theyattract attention. Who does not likeattention? The old frail bodies in ourparliament jump towards the well fasterthan the 100 meters sprinter. The attitudethey show gets the right attention all thetime. You have to be careful in playing thegame properly. Your PLAY gives you instantgratification. People Look At You [PLAY]when you show your attitude. Here aresome practical suggestions. All these arenon-related. Follow them in any sequence.Or create your own. The secret lies inpractice.

PLAY practice 1:
Ignore people. Walk into the committee room and
take your seat with out wishing others or even
smiling at them. Let people know that you are too
engrossed in other priorities – mainly yourself.
This is your silent e’lan of I-Me-Myself. After all,
there are better things to do than engage yourself
in the common rituals of common people.
PLAY practice 2:
Talk loud. People will always listen to you if you talk loud. It’s a
social pastime. Talk in heavy jargons. Talk in high funda-
abbreviations. Drop heavy names. Declare the big time concepts
you are working on. Make your itinerary open to public.
Talk…Talk…and Talk about the constraints of successfully
packaging 36 hours of work in 12 hours daily schedule. Using same
accent will add great flavour and ornamentation.
PLAY practice 3:
Make people wait. Waiting is not new for Indians. Right from
admission into the temple of knowledge to getting entry into the
temple for prayers, we know we have to wait. The more you make
people wait, the more their belief gets firmer that you are an
extremely busy and important person. People have plenty of time
anyway. You can’t waste something which otherwise is wasted.
PLAY practice 4:
Never return phone calls. Telephones are major business
irritants. Cellphones have complicated the matter further. Life
was so good before Graham Bell had his spiritual awakening
of saying ‘Hello’. Keep yourself occupied in perpetual
meetings – agenda or no agenda. Meetings are the best
shields available to modern managers. You need not call
back when urgent calls come. (Urgent matter would always
find ways to land on your desk – telephone or no telephone.)

PLAY practice 5:
Make people feel uncomfortable. Your body can
do wonders. Look through the upper part of your
lenses. Keep a still face and remain silent for
some time. People will get foxed. They will keep
wondering about the things you are wondering. Or
try another way. Don’t look at them when they are
talking. You can keep yourself busy by doodling
with your pen and paper. Even if there are more
people around you, you will remain the center of
focus – both for the speaker and for others. Your
attitude, of course, will declare – I don’t care.
PLAY practice 6:
Intrude into the space of others. Everyone has a right to his space. Evenyou have. Keep expanding it. The offices of today are so small. Whereelse would you keep your briefcase or folder if not on the worktable ofthe person you are visiting? Feel free to use the telephone of the personto make personal calls during your talks. Short of discussing the recipes, you can even talk about anything at any length when you borrow thecellphone of the other person. No one minds if you use their officialresources. Don’t hold back your inquisitive self when interestingliterature is carelessly kept around by the person you are visiting.
PLAY practice 7:
Jump the queue. A man in hurry waits for none. Opportunities do not wait for the complacent. You can trigger a quick inspiration the moment you jump the queue. Others will follow you in split second-reaction. Everyone secretly waits for the leader. Try this out on a red light or while waiting for the lift. Jump-start is always because of someone jumping at the start.

PLAY practice 8:
Dress to kill. Even if it means a bit heavy bill. Look
different. The days of three piece bottle green
colour suits, yellow shirts and a red tie are over.
Get a bit more shocking. Whatever looks good on
the ramp can’t look odd in the office. No one
knows how to have fun when they talk of fun at
the work place. Take lead. Bring out the child in
you. Buy all the ties in the market that display the
cartoon network characters.
PLAY practice 9:
Keep the spirits high. Learn from the Germans.
Their pitchers are bigger than our ‘patialas’. So
what if their contents are milder. The more you
can absorb the free stuff in the company parties,
the more you can convince the management
about the ‘optimum utilization of scarce
resources’. When you get real high seize the
opportunity of doing a 360 appraisal of people
who work around you. No one will notice the way
you get relieved of your suppressed self through
your ‘HOLD-NO-BAR” drunken outlashing. The
message will be easily delivered and you would
not have to apologize the next day for your (mis)
behaviour the night before!
PLAY practice 10:
Forget good manners. Whatever was taught in the
school can’t hold good now. Times have changed.
Today, good manners mean coping up with
somebody’s bad manners. Why are you
concerned? That’s what others will do. Ignorance
is bliss. You can pretend to remain blissfully
ignorant.

Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation. -Brian Tracy
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way. -Viktor E. Frankl
People may hear your words, but they feel your attitude.- John C. Maxwell
Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character. -Albert Einstein
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. -Thomas Jefferson
Some people say I have attitude -maybe I do... but I think you have to. You have to believe in yourself when no one else does - that makes you a winner right there. -Venus Williams

Family ventures in India serve as the backbone of the economy. Name any field of business or social initiative, and families in India would have played a pivotal role.
Family businesses have their own unique style and culture which keep evolving over the time. Market opportunities have been expanding globally; technology has been helping in the need and speed of delivery and the social and family milieu has created new dimensions in control and decision-making power-centres, besides the newer generation aspiring for new avenues or seeking a higher and faster stake in the enterprise. Complexities have been rising and so has the commitment to succeed.
Globally, businesses are seeking professional MENTORS for advice, strength and support. In India, highly aware families have followed suit. Some are gearing up, while a large number still live in the comfortable bliss of ignorance.
You too can easily reach out to a MENTOR if you identify your family business with any of these illustrative needs:
