National Park Definition

National park is a natural area designed (by the government) to protect the ecological integrity of one or more ecosystems for present and future generations.

Yellowstone National Park was established by the U. S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872.

Yellowstone is the oldest and best known national park in the United States.

Yellowstone National Park is located in the western United States. It spans 3,472 square miles (8,987 square km). Ninety-six percent of the park is located in the state of Wyoming, another three percent is in Montana, and one percent is in Idaho.

This park features the largest and most spectacular thermal area on earth:

over 10,000 geysers, hot springs, mud pots,

colorful travertine terraces.
