Nord Anglia International School Al Khor (formerly Compass International School Al Khor) opened its doors to students from the local and international community on 24 January 2012. Led by Mr Robert Graves, the school formed a partnership with Shell, to provide outstanding achievement through learning to the community of Al Khor. The school welcomed 80 eager children on its first day, which grew to 320 students in its first year. Due to its initial success, the school announced the opening of a Middle School class for the following academic year.

In September 2015, Compass International School Al Khor changed its name to Nord Anglia International School Al Khor (NAISAK) joining the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) family.

Our teachers are caring individuals that are primarily UK-qualified, leading a curriculum that provides the skills

and knowledge necessary for learners to succeed in the 21st century.

We are proud to be the only school in Al Khor offering unique collaborations with The Juilliard School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the UNESCO.

Message From Our PrincipalI would like to express my personal appreciation to the entire community for all of the support that you have provided me during my first year in Al Khor. I have enjoyed a wonderful first year at NAISAK. We have had much to celebrate, as our community has continued to thrive.

An area that can be often overlooked in publications but is the most important aspect in determining any school’s success, is the good work taking place in and out of the classroom on a daily basis. I would like to express my gratitude to teachers, students and parents for all of the effort that has gone into maximising learning opportunities for our children.

I n a d d i t i o n , w e h a v e h a d a n u m b e r o f achievements this year including:

• Successful fundraising from our PTFA • Creation of a Strategic Development Plan • Formalisation of specific roles and policies

• A successful Quality Assurance inspection from Nord Anglia Education • Cohesive approach to whole-school events from Foundation Stage to Secondary School • Increased educational visits both within Qatar and abroad • Expanded extra-curricular programme of activities, including community programmes • Increased use of Global Campus and becoming more involved with Nord Anglia initiatives • Fantastic productions and accompanying Art Exhibition.

I anxiously await the year ahead as we have ambitious plans for learning, working with our community and improving our facilities.  A key aspect of this will involve reviewing our vision and philosophy, leading into a curriculum review.  A key aspect of this will involve introducing the Juilliard programme to NAISAK, which will act as the creative key to unlocking our students’ imagination in all of their subjects.

Dear All

Welcome to the Foundation Stage section of the school yearbook. We have had a wonderful year full of smiles, laughter and learning. I have been impressed with the energy that has filled the Foundation classrooms this year, with students showing a sense of eagerness as they have been exposed to new learning moments. I am always amazed with the amount of progress that the students make within the Foundation Stage setting, particularly in their Communication and Language development and their increased levels confidence. The children have worked exceptionally hard in all seven areas of learning and they should feel proud of their individual and collective achievements.

It is always hard to say goodbye when students and staff leave us at the end of a year but we know that there will be an exciting new life waiting for them where they will make new memories. I would like to extend my thanks to them all for making my job so rewarding.

Our team of returning Foundation Stage teachers are excited to come back after the summer break and welcome their students in an upgraded learning environment. I would like to sincerely thank them for their creativity and dedication to making each child’s learning experiences purposeful and enjoyable.

I would also like to thank the parents for the continued support that they give the school, ensuring that our home-school partnerships remain strong. I firmly believe that the partnership between teachers and parents plays a significant part in a child’s education.

I hope that you all have a wonderful summer holiday and I look forward to welcoming you all back to school on 10 September.

Dear All

Welcome to the Primary section of the school yearbook. It is hard to believe that the end of the academic year is already upon us. As always, I have been impressed with the ambitious attitude that has been shown by the students in all areas of learning this year. It has been wonderful to see so many Primary students representing the school in competitions and events outside of school. The Qatar e-Nature Quiz, the Museum of Islamic Art creativity competition, the LuLu British Festival and our Student Councillors’ visit to the local hospital are to name but a few. The teamwork and excellent behaviour that our students demonstrate are always commented on by the hosts, and this makes me incredibly proud.

Our aspiring Year 2 and Year 6 performers brought our ‘Crown Playhouse’ alive this term with their energetic and colourful productions; I was extremely proud of each and every one. It is truly inspiring to see the talent, creativity and teamwork that are evident in those learning moments, and of course the enjoyment on the students’ face as they perform on stage.

As with every year, we will have some teachers moving to other teaching posts that span across the globe. I would personally like to thank them all for their hard work and dedication in providing our students with excellent learning experiences and treasured memories.

Looking ahead to the next academic year, we are looking forward to introducing a new PSHE programme of study across the Primary School. Through an integrated mindfulness approach, the programme will bring together Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, emotional literacy and social skills, thus preparing your child for the wider world and their position in it. Weekly celebrations will add a focus on specific behaviours or attitudes, helping the learning of the lessons to permeate every aspect of your child’s life at school.

I would like to extend my thanks to all the staff and the parents for their loyalty, respect and support in helping us to make this year so successful. The students should feel proud of their individual and collective achievements and deserve a well-earned rest! I look forward to seeing you all in September for the start of a new academic year and the introduction of ‘Juilliard’ to NAISAK.

Dear All

Welcome to the Secondary section of the school yearbook. As the year draws to a close, I am very pleased to be writing this message, for multiple reasons. Our Secondary School students have distinctively taken on board the Be Ambitious philosophy of our Nord Anglia family of schools as each of them has shone in their personal achievements. This year has offered them the opportunity to get involved in a variety of events to suit their personality, interests and skills. From their participation through practised leadership skills in the Around the World event in Primary School to their impressive talent displayed during the biggest ever Science Fair, from their creative costumes of literary protagonists for World Book Day to their team effort when defending our colours on a sports field, from their curiosity demonstrated during Humanities field trips to their competitiveness during the Pi Day celebrations, those are only examples where our students keep setting the bar higher and challenging us, adults, to help them reach increasingly ambitious goals.

It is certainly our hope that ambitions and dreams are shared as discussions and collaboration can only allow them to grow further. As some of us are ahead of a few restful weeks this summer, two of our students, being incredibly ambitious for themselves and the world we live in, are preparing to embark on a whole new journey as they spend a week in New York in July to work on the UN Global Goals. We are firmly looking forward to hearing all about this amazing adventure in September!

As with every year, some of our teachers are moving to other teaching posts at the end of this year. I would like to personally thank them for the genuine care and thoughtful guidance they have given our NAISAK students to make sure our learners have the widest and wildest learning experiences.

Similarly, some of our students are ahead of new adventures in a different school and possibly a different part of the world. I wish them all the very best and hope that they remember and take with them, more than the mere academic knowledge and skills learned at NAISAK, the values of what a true global citizen is.

I would also like to thank our parent community as their support is not only indispensable, it is also robust. Let us not forget that students spend most of their time at home; therefore academic and social success at school relies on relentless support at home and communication between home and school.

NAISAK would not be what it is without the enthusiasm of the teachers, learning assistants and other supporting members of our team. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for their commitment to making our school keep dreaming of greater ambitions.

May I finally take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and relaxing summer holiday. I will look forward to welcoming you back to our school on 10 September for another ambitious year of learning!
