ORGAN VOLUNTARY

Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland BWV 659a - Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry announces that the Lord is nigh; awake and hearken, for he brings glad tidings of the King of kings.

Then cleansed be ev’ry heart from sin; make straight the way for God within, and let each heart prepare a home, where such a mighty guest may come.

For you are our salvation, Lord, our refuge, and our great reward; without your grace we waste away like flow’rs that wither and decay.

To heal the sick, stretch out your hand, and bid the fallen sinner stand; shine forth and let your light restore earth’s own true loveliness once more.

To God the Son all glory be whose Advent set your people free; whom with the Father we adore and Holy Spirit evermore.

Prepare the way, O Zion, your Christ is drawing near! Let ev’ry hill and valley a level way appear. Greet One who comes in glory, foretold in sacred story. Oh blest is Christ that came in God's most holy name.

He brings God's rule, O Zion; he comes from heav’n above. His rule is peace and freedom, and justice, truth, and love. Lift high your praise resounding, for grace and joy abounding. Oh blest is Christ that came in God's most holy name.

Fling wide your gates, O Zion; your Saviour's rule embrace. His tidings of salvation proclaim in every place. All lands will bow before him, their voices will adore him. Oh blest is Christ that came in God's most holy name.

O come, divine Messiah! The world in silence waits the day when hope shall sing its triumph and sadness flee away.

WITH YOU AT THE CONCLUSION OF MASS TODAY.

On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry announces that the Lord is nigh; awake and hearken, for he brings glad tidings of the King of kings.

Then cleansed be ev’ry heart from sin; make straight the way for God within; and let each heart prepare a home, where such a mighty guest may come.

For you as our salvation, Lord, our refuge, and our great reward; without your grace we waste away, like flow’rs that wither and decay.

To heal the sick, stretch out your hand and bid the fallen sinner stand; shine forth and let your light restore earth’s own true loveliness once more.

To God the Son all glory be whose Advent set your people free; whom with the Father we adore and Holy Spirit, evermore.

Come, O long expected Jesus, born to set your people free, from our fears and sins release us, in your heart our rest shall be.

Israel’s strength and consolation, hope to all you shall impart; dear desire of ev’ry nation, joy of ev’ry longing heart.

Born, your people to deliver, born a child and yet a king: born to reign in us forever, now your gracious kingdom bring.

By your own eternal Spirit rule in all our hearts alone; by your all-sufficient merit raise us to your glorious throne.

The coming of our Lord with eager minds we greet, and joyful hasten on our way his glorious reign to meet.

Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths;

all people shall see the salvation of God.

Christ, the glory of the holy angels, thou who made us and loveth us.

Send us thy counsel, Guide all to thy throne. The heavens declare the glory of the Lord,

and forever, doth the earth sing his praises!
