WRITING - Making Your Own Thinking Harder Task

This week you’re going to create your own Thinking Harder task that you will then send on to one of your fellow classmates.

• Find a short article that interests you and copy and paste it into the blank ‘Thinking Hard’ grid. (You can visit BBC news, Tween Tribune, National Geographic or online magazines for hobbies you’re interested in.)

• Write the title of the article in the title box• Complete the ‘Crunch It’ box by deciding the theme/ aspect within the article should be focused on.• For the ‘Find It’ you need to create three questions about the article that will make the reader use their

inference (detective thinking) skills to find the answer in your article. (Look at the examples from this week’s Thinking Harder tasks)

• Next up you need to decide what aspect of the article you want them to ‘Summarize It’ for. This could be summarizing the main argument of the article or focusing on a specific aspect of a topic/ issue/ event/ the article explores.

• Lastly, you must create a consider it task. This should be an open question (one that needs more than a yes no answer) Ans should really encourage your reader to think creatively about the answer. (Look at the examples on the Thinking Harder tasks issued this week)

• Save your work when finished, and then email it to one of your classmates.
