I was so nervous on that cold, windy morning when the Reignier Year 6’s were about to leave for Camp Kaitawa. The week was jam-packed with muddy caving, tiring tramps, rain

and cookouts. What a fun, amazing week!

Finally we got to camp. We drove in cars. We all grabbed our own bags and took them to where were sleeping. As we were unpacking everybody got the word. WE ARE GOING ON

A WALK IN THE RAIN! All the Year 6’s wanted was a scrumptious dinner and go to bed.

When we got back everyone was saturated. THEN we got out of our saturated clothes. We all had our scrumptious, hot

meal.

I was beginning to feel less nervous.

Tuesday

On Tuesday all the Year 6’s had a cooked breakfast in store for us. We had a very big day ahead. We did the Ngamoko walk. There were trips, slips and slides. It was hard work. The Rata tree was 800 – 1000 years old! Finally we got on to a track that we all knew would take us back to camp. When we got back I felt a little bit sore but not too tired.

Wednesday

On my second night I had a horrible sleep but I had a great time. I learnt about the headless horseman, Michael Noonan. When we got back we had hamburgers for dinner. Connor had 3 burgers. That night there was no dessert. Overall I had a good day.

Thursday

On Thursday I had a great sleep. On this day we went to Lake Waikareiti. We looked at the lake and we had morning tea. We walked back down the track and had lunch by a tree outside DOC. We had a cookout that night. I was really looking forward to doing the cookout because I like cooking over open fires. We made nachos and they were tasty as. Ours was probably the healthiest because it had peas in it.

Friday

On Friday we got up and we had breakfast and cleaned up. We had to pack up all our gear. When everyone had packed their stuff it was all left up to the parents to do all the rest of the cleaning while the year 6 children were playing on the court. The trip home was tasty because we had ice blocks. That was the best school camp ever!
