We have done lots of work on multiplying whole numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 and the principal remains the same. The digits move one space to the left when multiplying by 10, two spaces when multiplying by 100 and three spaces when multiplying by 1000. Eg 0.3 x 10 = 3.0 0.3 x 100 = 30.00 0.3 x 1000 = 300.00 Today we will be looking at dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. Today we are going to use the area model to multiply two digit numbers together. Remember this method asks you to partition the tens and ones before you multiply them. Watch the video on Summer term, Week 3, lesson 1 to remind you of how to do this. https://whiterosemaths.com/ homelearning/year-5/ Today we are going to use the formal column multiplication method. Remember to set your work out clearly, and to include zero as a place holder when multiplying the digits in the tens column. You will need to use your times table knowledge to help you with this. Don’t forget to carry where needed.
