Performing poems. Finding features of poems. Wring our own poems based on a poet. For our second unit we will be exploring ‘The village that vanished’ by Ann Grifalconi. We will be: Exploring different cultures. Describing a sengs and characters. Focusing on our inference skills to explore events. Maths This term Year 4 children will learning the important skills in place value and addion and subtracon. We will be learning to: Recognise the place value of each digit in a four digit number (thousands, hundreds, tens and ones) Round any number to the nearest 10, 100 or 10 Solve number and praccal problems that involve all of the above and with increasingly large posive numbers Count backwards through zero to include negave numbers Read Roman numerals to 100 Add and subtract numbers with up to 4 digits using the formal wrien methods of columnar addion and subtracon where Science In Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitat. We will be learning to: Research different habitats and the different living things that live there Group animals based on observable features Classify animals into specific groups Use a classificaon grids to idenfy a parcular type of animal Idenfy different types of trees in our local environment To understand the posive and negave effect of humans on living things and the environment Opportunies for SMSC Year 4 the children will: Engage in praccal acvies which require them to engage in team work and show mutual respect for each other. Be sharing their life experiences and aspiraons and show respect for other’s opinions in PSHE. Learn how to respecully and courteously challenge each other’s opinions in class discussions. Topic
During topic we will be looking at
Romans and their Empire. During
the first lesson the children will be
recording their prior knowledge and
discussing any misconceptions they
may have. This leads on to ordering
dates and events on a
timeline. Children will also be given
an opportunity to look at and
handle artefacts, collecting
evidence from these and explaining
how the lives of the rich and poor
differed. Children will be gathering
evidence about what life was like in
Britain before the Romans arrived,
explaining why the Romans were
successful in their invasion and
what life was like in Roman Britain.
DT
In DT, children be learn to make
bread, similar to the type that
Ancient Romans and soldiers would
have made. The children will take
part in researching bread and taking
part in bread tasting. They will then
move on to designing their bread
and making it. After that, they will
be tasting their bread and evaluate
it.
Computing
In ICT, children will be reviewing
online safety and why it is
important to keep passwords safe.
Children will use a program called
purple mash to interact with a
range of ICT units.
Children will learn to:
Create a presentation on how
to stay safe online
Understand how the internet
helps us to communicate
P.E.
In PE this term, we will be learning about Gymnastics and Football.
